What are traditional Chinese characters?
Traditional Chinese characters, a font form of Chinese characters, are called "traditional Chinese characters" in European and American countries. Generally speaking, it refers to the Chinese characters replaced by simplified characters in the Chinese character simplification movement, and sometimes it refers to the whole Chinese character regular script and official script writing system before the Chinese character simplification movement.
Traditional Chinese has a history of more than two thousand years. Until 1956, it was the standard Chinese character used by Chinese people all over the world. A total of 2274 simplified words and 14 simplified word radicals, such as "Ni Yue", "Yue", "Yue" and "Yue", were collected in the Summary of Simplified Words.
For example, the word "Hou" and the word "Hou" of "Queen" were originally two words in traditional Chinese characters, but in order to omit strokes, they were uniformly replaced by the word "Hou" with fewer strokes.
Traditional Chinese characters are still used in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and most overseas Chinese communities such as Singapore and Malaysia are traditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinese characters. In Chinese mainland, in the case of cultural relics, variant surnames, calligraphy seal cutting, handwritten inscriptions and special needs, traditional Chinese characters are retained or used.

On June 5th, 20 13, the schedule of Chinese Characters for General Norms, Comparison Table of Standardized Characters, Traditional Characters and Variant Characters was published. The use of Chinese characters in general application field shall be subject to the Standard Chinese Character List.
The difference between complexity and simplification
In addition to their own glyphs, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese are also different in vocabulary.
For example, the ballpoint pen commonly used in simplified Chinese is called ballpoint pen in traditional Chinese, Stalin in simplified Chinese is called Stalin in traditional Chinese, and North Korea in simplified Chinese (here, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is also called North Korea) is called North Korea in traditional Chinese.
Because of this difference, the term "traditional language" came into being. But in fact, this is not the difference between traditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinese characters, mainly because people who use them, especially Chinese mainland and Taiwan Province Province, did not communicate much after their separation for political reasons in the middle of the 20th century, which resulted in the differences in word usage habits.
Since 1980, this phenomenon has become more obvious due to different technical terms. In addition, there are some differences in vocabulary habits between Taiwan Province Province and Hongkong, which also use traditional Chinese. Therefore, it was pointed out that the correct terms should be "Taiwan Province terms" and "Hongkong terms", not "traditional terms".
