It is located in Longmen Mountain and Xiangshan Mountain on both sides of the Yi River in the southern suburbs of Luoyang City. It is one of the four largest grottoes in China (the other three grottoes are Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Gansu, Yungang Grottoes in Datong, Shanxi and Maijishan Grottoes in Tianshui).
