How do novices practice writing brush calligraphy

Hello, share a teacher's principle about choosing copybooks for your reference.

Take the method and seek the classics.

Broadly speaking, posts can refer to words written by the ancients in different media, such as stones, bones, bamboo, metal, porcelain, silk, paper and so on. At least 150 kinds of inscriptions have finally survived in the historical erosion. How to choose them? The principle is "learn from the law, learn from the classics". You must choose a tablet with accurate pen, lively attitude, elegant style, beautiful charm and rich interest as the learning object, and you can't take any copybook as a model.

For example, in regular script, Yan is usually chosen as the entry, and Wei Liu is rarely chosen. The truth here is not a question of good or bad, but a choice of methods. Yan characters are full of gas and thick meat, and the font contains some naive and simple parts, which is suitable for beginners. The development of regular script in Tang dynasty has completed the growth of modeling, and in Song dynasty it entered the stage of self-style choice.

Willow characters represent an extreme maturity in regular script. Prosperity and decline, material strength and old age, extreme maturity also means a kind of rigidity. Too strict laws will limit the free release of creativity, just like water in a cup. The more full it is, the smaller the space is, and the less likely it is to change. Therefore, it is not recommended to take Liu Zi as the main character for beginners, but when you have a certain foundation in learning regular script and can write thick strokes, you can often use Liu Calligraphy to sort out the structure and make a difference.

Learn to write, the reason why we must catch up with the Jin people to get the method, and work hard in it, follow this logic. With the development of calligraphy in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the three most commonly used calligraphy styles, regular script, running script and cursive script, began to take shape and blended and transformed with each other. The mature rules of regular script have not yet been formed, and the structure of characters is very casual, so there is greater tolerance and possibility. For the development of calligraphy in later generations, the accumulation and retention of this stage, like umbilical cord blood, has laid the foundation stone. But because it is not yet mature, all kinds of uncertainties are full of vitality, and all possibilities are hidden in it. "Learning from the law" means finding the source, learning from teachers, and then seeing how you have grown up all the way, understanding the evolution of style and seeing new possibilities from the side. For example, the study of seal script should start with "Carving Stone on Yishan Mountain" and Li, clarify the structure and brushwork of classical seal script, and then go to the Qing Dynasty, where the style of seal script developed and evolved, to see how the later masters such as Deng and others handled it. "It is not easy to use a pen through the ages", and the interpretation of the latecomers mostly starts from the same mother, or is based on the mother's imagination.

About "seeking classics", that is to say, writing those classic works and finding those classics that have been proved by many people's practice to learn. For example, if you want to learn running script, you should write "Preface to ji zi's Victory in Teaching", which is nearly 2,000 words. It is a collection of Wang Ci, and it is also the best teaching material to help us establish the structure of Wang Ci. And after reading Wang Yi's running script, everyone came from it, so the model with higher success rate is naturally the best starting point.

Know what to learn.

It is a beginning to have classics as the basic basis, and we can follow them and see the possibility of this development in people of different times and their works.

In the face of a post, it is not ours after it is written. We need to metabolize some things through our own metabolism and transformation, and at the same time leave some things behind and turn them into our own energy. Therefore, facing a post, we should have a very clear consciousness of what to absorb and what to use.

For example, learning running script can start with Zhiyong's running script "True Grass Thousand Characters", which uses the classic brushwork of Wang Xizhi's family, and it is ink, and the details are very detailed. You can learn the static form first, and then learn to write the inscription "Preface to the Collection of Characters" after you have a feel, and use it to establish the structural consciousness of the "two kings" running script, and put the brushwork learned in "True Grass Thousand Characters" into the dynamic. While writing the Preface to the Collection of Chinese Characters, you can also start writing the Preface to the Collection of Lanting, so that you can make up for the lack of inscriptions with meticulous details in pen and ink, and make up for the lack of circulation in the Collection of Chinese Characters with the fluency of pen and ink. After writing Preface to Lanting Collection, I will practice Preface to ji zi's Victory in Teaching for a period of time, then consolidate it with pen and structure, and then introduce Preface to Lanting Collection. If you write in this order, you will find that after the flesh and blood grow out one by one, the writing will naturally be smooth.

Combination of flat plate and column

As the object of temporary writing, there are two kinds of the most common legal posts, one is white characters on a black background, which often comes from rubbings on inscriptions, and the other is black characters on a white background, which is ink directly preserved. There are two opinions about wordpad or aunt. One thinks that ink is more important because it is the original; Another view is that writing inscriptions is better, because inscriptions are a source of epigraphy aesthetics. In fact, these are their characteristics, but there is no absolute judgment in practice.

The ink on the post is written directly on paper or other materials by people with pen and ink. It is the contact between the pen and the soft carrier, which can show many changes in details, such as the intensity and fineness of the ink. Ink is related to the process of using a pen. In this process, we can see its swing, which is an intuitive presentation of a writing process and is related to time.

Inscriptions are carved on stone or wood first, and then the content is extended, which is equivalent to the second generalization and processing on the basis of ink. It is conceivable that the details and changes presented by the soft pen are beyond the understanding of the blade, so compared with the ink, the inscription lacks many delicate details, while the knife is carved on the stone, which artificially increases the resistance, so it presents a more vigorous aesthetic feeling.

Because of the characteristics of the seal engraver, the inscription is clean and clear, which is more inclined to be summarized as a whole than ink, and can better present the structure of a word. This column looks like a plant with lush foliage in summer. Those details restore its spirit and rhythm, the delicate bond brought by the pen, and the subtle depth of ink on the paper, which are all impossible for the inscription.

The words in Preface to Ci Collection and Preface to Lanting were written by Wang Xizhi. The former is an inscription made by monk Huairen, while the latter is ink written directly on calligraphy. Put the two together, the difference and the number of detailed books are clear at a glance.

Words are like people, flesh and blood. You have to grow bones first, then flesh and blood can attach to them, and then expand to the outside decoration. You can first lay the foundation with inscriptions to establish a general sense of the overall structure, and then enter the ink to understand the subtle details and the fluency of writing, and pursue the changes in the details and movements in the transition. The two are a good complement and balance.

If the post is written for a long time, it is easy to be slippery and mellow. At this time, you can find balance in the inscription. There are many inscriptions, so it is easy to imitate the texture of the knife with a pen. If so, we can treat it through ink. Monument and post are a kind of collocation that can help and promote each other. In learning, it is very important to integrate them and make good use of them according to your own specific situation.
