Where is Bruce Lee's ancestral home?

Bruce Lee's ancestral home is Shangcun.

Because Bruce Lee grew up overseas, there have been different opinions about the specific location of Bruce Lee's ancestral home. According to relevant information, in order to uncover the mystery of Bruce Lee's life experience, Huang Dechao, the current vice president of Bruce Lee Research Association and director of Bruce Lee Memorial Hall, began to research Bruce Lee's ancestral home from 1994. After several years, he finally found the key witness to prove that Bruce Lee's ancestral home was in Shang Village, Jun 'an.

It is reported that in 1994, Huang Dechao, who worked in Shunde municipal government at that time, met Bruce Lee's brother Ye Zhun at a martial arts research meeting and learned that Bruce Lee's father Li Haiquan's ancestral home might be in Nanfanshun area. After research and analysis, Huang Dechao went deep into various villages in Shunde to find clues and found that many famous Cantonese opera singers came from Shunde. Later, he found Li Haiquan's young friend Li Youxing and other old people who were alive at that time, and learned that Li Haiquan and them were the brothers of the same squire, and their ancestral home in Shangcun still existed.

1July, 996, with the help of Bruce Lee's brother Huang Chunliang and nephew Dr. Liang Ting, Huang Dechao found Bruce Lee's sister Li Qiuyuan. According to the rough instructions provided by Li Qiuyuan, among the nearly 10,000 graves in the Catholic Cemetery in Cheung Sha Wan, Bruce Lee's five brothers and sisters erected a tombstone for their father Li Haiquan, which was found halfway up the mountain. The inscription "The Tomb of Joseph, the Holy Name of Li Haiquan, Father of Shunde" above the monument further proves that Shunde is the hometown of Bruce Lee.

The ancestral alley is called "Xiaolong Lane"

There are more than 0/000 people in Shangcun, Jun 'an Town, among whom Li accounts for the vast majority, and there are many celebrities in history. In modern times, there were Li Wentian, an assistant minister of rites who explored flowers in Xianfeng for nine years in Qing Dynasty, Li Yanzhai, the first dean of the College of Literature of Hong Kong University, and Li Quzhai, the primary chairman of the Guangdong Calligraphers Association and the deputy director of the Guangzhou Museum of Literature and History. Bruce Lee's ancestral home is located at 12 in the middle of the alley. Compared with the new buildings in the following floors, this traditional brick ancestral home is only about 50 square meters, which is divided into one room, one living room, one kitchen and one patio. On the wall of the small hall, there are movie stills starring Bruce Lee, an incense table and a wooden dummy for practice.

It is said that this house was originally built by Bruce Lee's grandfather Chen-Piao Li, and Bruce Lee's father Li Haiquan was born here. Chen-Piao Li worked as an escort in his early years, and after retirement, he came to Shangcun, then named Jiang Wei, to make a living. In order to reduce the burden of life, Chen-Piao Li arranged for his two sons, Li Mantian and Li Haiquan (then called Li Manchuan), to be apprentices in the famous Xiaotianxia Teahouse in Foshan.

In Foshan, Li Haiquan met Xiao Yi, a famous Cantonese opera actor who changed his life. With the consent of his parents, Li Haiquan formally studied drama with Xiao Shiyi as his teacher. According to a widely circulated document written by Li Bengen, a descendant of Lee in Shangcun and the manager of Lee's ancestral hall, Bruce Lee's grandfather Chen-Piao Li made a living in other places and gave his house to relatives for three generations.

Li Bengen said that Bruce Lee's grandfather Chen-Piao Li didn't tell many stories in Shangcun. His generation had never seen a specimen of Li Zhen, but at least three old people in Shangcun had seen Li Haiquan. He also said that Li Youxing, the late old man of Shangcun, mentioned that Li Haiquan had been to Shangcun at 1945 or 1946, and he also brought a five-or six-year-old child, presumably Bruce Lee. In addition, Li Youxing, Li Bengen's father and the old Li Baigen in the village all said that they had seen Li Haiquan acting, and the latter also saw him with a "little brother".

Li Baojun, a villager aged 8/kloc-0, said that Li Haiquan was several decades older than him and should be called "uncle". When Li Haiquan left his hometown, Li Baojun was not born and left no impression, but he knew a lot about Li Haiquan's family.

According to Li Baojun, Li Haiquan's ancestors were very poor. Ancestral houses were originally made of oyster shells mixed with soil. Due to disrepair and lack of fertilizer in the village, this wall was pulled down in the 1950s. The ancestral houses we see now have been rebuilt several times. It is said that there are several brothers and sisters in Li Haiquan. My younger brother Li Hongmian later moved to Jiangmen, and another brother named "Pearl of the Blind Street" disappeared. Most of Li Haiquan's other relatives went to Jiangmen to survive, and now the relatives who stayed in Shangcun are far away.
