Qian Shoutie's calligraphy couplet

Qian Shoutie (1897- 1967) was born in Li Hongsheng, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. He is one of the founders of the Chinese Painting Association. He is good at Chinese painting, calligraphy and seal cutting. His nicknames are the owner of Qingfeng Pavilion and the owner of Tianchi Dragon and Tiger Castle. Hashimoto Tōru (1883- 1945) is a famous Japanese painter and a leader of the Kanto School. Since 19 14, Guan Xue Hashimoto has been to China for more than 30 times and is proficient in many ancient cultures in China.

The relationship between Guan Xue Hashimoto and Qian Shoutie began at 1922. One hundred years have passed, and this romance has continued to this day. The descendants of both families are the third generation. They still continue to care about this relationship and keep in touch. Their family treasures a large number of works and documents of two ancestors. Mr. Qian said that he hoped to hold a retrospective exhibition of communication with Hashimoto.

Qian Shoutie and Hashimoto Guan Xue? The retrospective exchange exhibition was held in Zhejiang Art Museum from August/KLOC-0 to August 30, 2020. This is also the first time in China to present the painting history of these two artists together. Both the presentation of the works and the layout of the exhibition hall are very clever, which also witnessed a legendary story in the history of Sino-Japanese artistic exchange. Through 150 works of calligraphy, painting, seal cutting and literature, this exhibition shows the aesthetic pursuit and different artistic styles of the two artists. The friendship between the two artists makes people really understand the essence of today's cultural exchange between China and Japan. This exhibition presents such a fascinating story of cultural exchange between China and Japan with detailed exhibits and documentary records.

In his communication with Japanese intellectuals before his death, Qian Shoutie said: Art is a noble and precious thing that soothes life. He firmly believes that the Chinese and Japanese people have established close and friendly relations through culture and art. Qian Shoutie, a famous Japanese painter, seal engraver Guan Xue Hashimoto, and a famous Japanese painter studying in China wrote a wonderful story of Sino-Japanese cultural exchange. The friendship between them is also a legendary story of cultural exchange between China and Japan in modern times.
