There is a local legend about the origin of Lion Building: during the Song Renzong period (A.D. 1023), yanggu county had a prosperous population, businesses and many shops, and there was a Chinese medicine shop at the corner of the west street of Yanggu. The owner's name is Zhao Runchun, and he has no children. There is only one woman named Xiugu. Father and daughter run a drugstore, and the children's business is smooth sailing. Ximen Qing, a local bully, took a fancy to Xiugu's beauty, sent someone to kill Zhao Runsheng and occupied the drugstore and Xiugu. On their wedding night, Xiugu got Ximen Qing drunk to avenge her father, locked her house, set fire to it, and then committed suicide. But Ximen Qing was not burned to death, and the Yuanyang Pavilion in Xiyuan was reduced to ashes. Ximen Qing followed the advice of Mr. Feng Shui and built the Lion Building. There is a pair of stone lions with red eyes, temples and grinning in front of the building. Later, Song Wu avenged his brother and killed Ximen Qing here, making Lion Building famous all over the world.
