Zhao Mengfu [fǔ], courtesy name Zi'ang, Han nationality, also known as Songxue Taoist, also known as Crystal Palace Taoist (some say Shuijinggong Taoist), Ou Bo, he was once assigned to Meng Fu in his middle age. A native of Wuxing (now Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province), his native place is Lanxi, Wuzhou. Official, calligrapher, painter, poet from the late Southern Song Dynasty to the early Yuan Dynasty, the eleventh grandson of Song Taizu Zhao Kuangyin and the direct descendant of Qin King Zhao Defang.
Zhao Mengfu was erudite and talented, good at poetry and prose, good at economics, good at calligraphy, fine painting, good at epigraphy, familiar with laws and regulations, and good at interpretation and appreciation. In painting, he created a new style of painting in the Yuan Dynasty, which was known as the "Crown of the Yuan Dynasty". His paintings use a wide range of materials and comprehensive techniques, and are good at landscapes, figures, flowers and birds. His calligraphy is based on the styles of Zhong Yao, "Er Wang", Li Yong, Zhao Gou, etc. He is good at seal script, official script, Zhen script, Xing script, and Cao script, and is especially famous for regular script and running script. His calligraphy style is charming, elegant, and structured. With strict and neat calligraphy and mature calligraphy, he created the "Zhao style" calligraphy. Together with Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan, he is known as the "Four Masters of Regular Script". In addition, Zhao Mengfu advocated following the example of the ancients and emphasized that "calligraphy and painting have the same origin". His thoughts on painting, calligraphy and painting had a profound impact on future generations.
