Why is Wang Xizhi regarded as a "book saint"?

Scholars in China are particularly interesting. A poet writes poems well, a painter draws well, and a calligrapher writes well. Wang Xizhi, a great calligrapher, won this title.

Of course, there are many famous calligraphers in the history of China. For example, my ancestor, Mr. Yan Zhenqing, was a famous calligrapher and a great figure in the history of calligraphy. But why is only Wang Xizhi called a calligrapher by later generations?

?

First of all, he has a very important position in this field. He was not only a leading figure in calligraphy at that time, but also higher than his predecessors' achievements, which had an important influence on the field of later generations.

?

We know that Wang Xizhi came from the Jin Dynasty. Before Wang Xizhi, there were calligraphers, but they had an influence on later generations, or after thousands of times, people could still know his specific name, and we couldn't name any of them. In other words, no one was more famous than Wang Xizhi in the calligraphy circle before and during Wang Xizhi's period.

Of course, Xizhi's calligraphy skills are also very deep, and he doesn't specialize in any fonts. He is proficient in many kinds of fonts, and has deep attainments in regular script, running script, cursive script and official script, which is very wrong in the history of calligraphy.

?

Of course, his son Wang Xianzhi is also a famous calligrapher, reaching the same level as his father Xihe. But the ancients paid attention to seniority, and his son's achievements were similar to those of Laozi, but the halo he wore on his head could not overwhelm Laozi.

?

Of course, Wang Xizhi's calligraphy has a great influence on later generations. Ou Yangxun, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan and Zhao Mengfu, known as the four great calligraphers in calligraphy, all copied Wang Xizhi's calligraphy at first, but later they created their own calligraphy on the basis of several great calligraphers.

?

In other words, Wang Xizhi can be said to be a master of several great calligraphers in later generations, so it is not surprising that he was praised as a book saint by later generations.
