When Yuan was young, he was taught by his father. He is very talented and has learned something from the Expo. In the eighth year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1882), I visited Huluzhai on the Taoist platform and stayed at Liu Guest House. I heard the sound of reading next door and stayed up all night. My heart was very different. The next morning, I ordered the soldiers to read Yuan all night and saw him wearing a shabby robe, but his facial features were solemn. He wanted to test his talent and told him that it was right: "Pupils wear blue shirts to sweep the floor"; Yuan casually replied: "The boss is red." The Taoist platform praised him very much, gave him a book and said to his entourage, "Mo Daomiao's hometown people are ignorant, and this wizard is once in a lifetime." Later, Yuan was sponsored by others and entered the library. His writing and calligraphy are excellent, and he is among the best in the county administration examination. At the age of 29, China Guangxu Ding Youke paid tribute. Later, due to illness, he was unable to take the exam in Beijing and set up a library to teach.
In the 25th year of Guangxu, Shi, a Miao student, was admitted to Baojing Scholar and went to Yongshun House to take the exam. Someone falsely accused him of "impersonation" and was expelled from the invigilator. After learning the news, Yuan stood up and argued that he was allowed to take the exam.
In the spring of the second year of the Republic of China (19 13), Yuan was appointed as a Chinese teacher of Hunan Fourth Normal University. In 3 years, the Fourth Normal School was merged into the First Normal School. In 4 years of the Republic of China, the students of the First Normal University launched a student movement against the principal Zhang Qian, and Zhang Qian decided to expel 17 students. Yuan and others argued in front of Zhang Qian, and Zhang Qian was forced to take it back.
In 5 years of the Republic of China, when Tan, who was in the same column with him, was the governor of Hunan, he asked Yuan to be the confidential secretary of the provincial government. He refused on the grounds that he was too old and weak to bear the heavy responsibility, and continued to engage in education. He has taught in Beijing Normal University (now Beijing Normal University), Hunan First Normal University, Provincial No.1 Middle School, Mingde Middle School and Changjun Middle School. He participated in the preparatory work of Hunan University with Hu for 6 years and served as a teacher of this school until 19 (1930) retired.
Besides teaching, Yuan also wrote books such as Explaining Chinese Characters, History of Literature, Required Reading of Calligraphy, Introduction to Classified Grammar, and Chinese Lectures. After retiring and returning to his hometown, he devoted himself to the book "Talking about the Early Grass of Literature" and eventually died of overwork. There are some manuscripts today.
On the second day of the fourth lunar month in February1year (1932.5.7), Yuan died of illness at the age of 64. Buried in Yuanjiadang Snake Mountain, Hekou.
