-Flower-and-bird painting in Chen Yuanlong.
A few days ago, the Chen Yuanlong Flower and Bird Exhibition was unveiled in the Art Hall of the Art College of Tianjin Normal University. More than 80 masterpieces were exhibited in the exhibition. Excellent flower-and-bird paintings with different styles create a unique "flower-and-bird world", so that everyone who comes to the exhibition seems to smell the flowers and hear the birds singing. Chen Yuanlong is a professor of Chinese painting and tutor of master students in the Fine Arts Department of Tianjin Normal University. He is famous for his flower-and-bird paintings. He has received strict professional training. In the 1970s, he was lucky enough to be admitted to the flower-and-bird painting class of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts by the famous flower-and-bird painter Huo Chunyang-the only flower-and-bird painting class held since the establishment of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. For this class, the famous painter Sun Qifeng adopted a unique teaching concept. Chen Yuanlong followed the teacher's instructions and was not distracted. After years of hard work, I finally formed a personal appearance in flowers and birds. This exhibition shows the painter's paintings for more than 30 years, which is divided into four parts: lesson draft, landscape sketch, calligraphy and flower-and-bird creation, showing the painter's artistic accomplishment in many aspects.
Chen Yuanlong has been teaching in universities for many years and has rich teaching experience. His lecture not only embodies the teacher's teaching philosophy, but also summarizes and refines, and the schema is clear and concise. Chen Yuanlong's flower-and-bird painting is both meticulous and freehand, and he is good at freehand. They rely on mountains and rivers, and flowers and birds are naturally vigorous. Because he is good at dealing with the relationship between density, reality and interlude, the painter can not only draw sketches, but also construct large paintings. His sketches are fresh and childlike. Among the big paintings, the painter is especially good at the old Song Dynasty, and Gu Zhuo is extraordinary and magnificent. It is not difficult to see the momentum or grandeur of a big painting, but it is difficult to see the agility, and the painter has both. It can be said that agility is seen in momentum and richness, which constitutes the distinctive feature of Chen Yuanlong's freehand flower-and-bird painting.
The painter borrowed a wide range of freehand brushwork materials. Among all kinds of subjects, he is most infatuated with squirrels, and he tries his best to "think wonderfully" in the performance of squirrels-the painter is not satisfied with the general representation of squirrels, but further sublimates them, personifies them and is naive and romantic, so the squirrels in his works are more lovely and kind than the squirrels in the natural state. From "implicit" to "poor", on the one hand, the squirrel's texture and expression are shown in every possible way, on the other hand, from a small point of view, it is erratic, ethereal, leisurely, quiet, hazy and boundless, and various artistic conceptions flow from his pen. It can be said that the painter's performance of squirrels has reached a superb level, just as his teacher, Mr. Sun Qifeng, said, "Make good use of the luck of the gods and gather the wonders of nature."

The famous painter Chen Yuanlong visited China. com。
Guest: Chen Yuanlong, Professor and Master Supervisor of Fine Arts College of Tianjin Normal University, Vice Chairman of Hexi Artists Association and member of Hexi CPPCC. Brief introduction: Chen Yuanlong, following the famous sayings of the ancients, has traveled all over the famous mountains and rivers for many years, watching exotic flowers and grass, smelling birds, combining the beauty of Emei, the danger of Mount Tai, the preciseness of Mount Tai, the pine of Mount Huangshan and the scenery of Mount Lushan.
[China Netscape]: Hello, netizens, welcome to watch this issue of China Netscape. You must have heard of and seen such a long scroll as Hundred Tigers and Hundred Horses. But have you ever seen a picture of a hundred squirrels? 10 years ago, a painter in Tianjin became a hit because of this painting "Hundred Squirrels". He is the famous painter Chen Yuanlong. Today, we are fortunate to have Mr. Chen Yuanlong here. Hello, teacher Chen.
A painter is not a painter, and art is not a reproduction of life.
[China Net]: Is sketch very important for calligraphy and painting creation?
[Chen Yuanlong]: Sketch is very important for the painter's painting creation, and most of the materials in the creation come from sketch. Like the squirrel I created. Squirrels are big, small, long-tailed and short-tailed, and they are of different colors. According to statistics, there are as many as 300 kinds. This time we went to Thailand to give a lecture. I drew a picture of two little squirrels on a driftwood in the water. The students like it very much and feel very energetic, which I accumulated in my usual sketching. In the process of teaching, I often take students to sketch in other places. Sketch can make what we draw more vivid and concrete, and better grasp the spirit of what we want to draw. Years of painting and teaching have led me to a conclusion: if you want to draw well, you should pay attention to sketch.
[China. Com]: So shall we sketch to observe, or shall we just sit there and use strokes?
[Chen Yuanlong]: A painter is not a painter. Painting is not copying life, not as simple as taking pictures. For example, if you draw a flower, you won't sit down and draw when you see it. If you want to draw this flower, its leaves are incomplete, then you can add the leaves of that flower to show the beauty you want to show in the painting. For painting, it is impossible to develop blindly copying. Pursuing an artistic conception, Chinese painting pays attention to using pen lines. I ask students to do the same. The first is to collect information. I have many newspapers and magazines, including some library materials. For squirrels, we should not only sketch, but also study their habits, their way of life in the natural environment, whether they live in groups and what they like to eat. Because squirrels not only eat pine cones, but also like to eat some sour fruits. Sometimes I am dealing with some snow and rain scenes and drawing some dry branches. Considering the effect of pen and ink, I am wet and dry, so I draw these squirrels. They are just a little red in evergreen trees, and the interest brings great highlights in this painting.
[China Net]: As a graduate tutor, how do you educate students? [Chen Yuanlong]: The students are very diligent. As a tutor of graduate students, you can't teach one by one like undergraduates and junior college students. Therefore, they are required to read more books and inspire more, and another is to teach them some knowledge other than painting. What is painting outside of work? Is to ask them to write more articles and articles about learning Chinese painting. So we should not only teach, but also educate people. I want to teach them to write papers, so I recruit a few graduates every year, and I am very strict with them. I told them that I grew up in your time. I hope you can learn from me, but not too much like me. You have to break through your predecessors to make a difference. So when it comes to painting squirrels, I don't want them to be painted like me. I hope they can gather the strengths of various schools, travel all over the world, break through the school of painting in Tianjin and go to the whole country.
Diligent in sketching, learning from nature.
[China Network]: How did you get on the road of painting?
[Chen Yuanlong]: China's paintings are the cultural treasures of our five thousand years in China. Because my father Chen Meian is an educator of calligraphy and painting, I grew up in this living environment since I was a child. When I was a child, my father asked me to write calligraphy, recite Tang poems and draw pictures every day. Later 1974 was admitted to the first flower-and-bird painting class of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under famous painters Sun Qifeng, Pu Zuo and Huo Chunyang. In a flash, 30 years passed.
[China Net]: Have you loved painting since you were a child?
[Chen Yuanlong]: When I was very young, I often observed my father's paintings by Chen Meian. He has some friends who love painting and often come to my house to discuss some problems about painting. Under their influence, I embarked on the road of painting. When I grow up, especially going to the countryside will have a great influence on my painting career. In the countryside, I observed more things that I couldn't see in the city, and I started sketching, which laid a good foundation for my future creation. After this period of accumulation, I entered the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and formally embarked on the formal road of learning painting.
[China Net]: What kind of influence does the experience of going to the countryside have on your calligraphy and painting?
[Chen Yuanlong]: Life in the countryside is somewhat different from life in the city. During my time in the countryside, I observed the life in the countryside and what I couldn't see in the city. The unique scenery in the countryside, like the flower-and-bird paintings I painted, was mostly accumulated by me during that time. I made full use of this time to sketch and accumulated various materials, which was of great help to my later painting and calligraphy creation.
Works, the best is always the next.
[China Net]: Why do you have a soft spot for squirrels?
[Chen Yuanlong]: It's a long story. Because I teach, I can't do without sketching. When I was a student, my teacher took us to Mount Tai, Beijing Zoo, Huangshan Mountain and Heze. Draw not only flowers, but also birds. There are squirrels everywhere in Panshan Mountain, so we will get a cage and catch them every day to color them. I remember it was 1993. Just after the reform and opening up, I held an art exhibition in Shenzhen, and the teacher asked me to draw a long scroll. By chance, I drew a 100 little squirrel scroll, which was very popular in Shenzhen. These 100 squirrels not only have different moods, but also show their natural scenery and animal feelings in the four seasons, including the changes of pen and ink. Although more than ten years have passed, I still have deep feelings for this painting. Then, why do many collectors and news organizations, including CCTV, broadcast this painting? Because there were not many painters who painted squirrels at that time, painting 100 squirrels was a zero breakthrough.
[China Net]: You are good at drawing flowers and birds. Why do you involve many landscape paintings in Chen Yuanlong's painting collection?
[Chen Yuanlong]: As an art, flower-and-bird painting and landscape painting are integrated. Just like doctors, only internal medicine and surgery can be distinguished. As far as internal medicine is concerned, no matter whether he studies the heart or the stomach, he needs to have a general understanding of internal organs. The same is true of painting, whether it is flower-and-bird painting or landscape painting, which is a part of Chinese painting and needs our careful understanding and exploration. In addition, publishing this album is also to show my talents in many aspects to the outside world. Everyone knows that I paint flowers and birds, and now I can paint landscape paintings. Wouldn't it be better? And as an art teacher, the students he teaches also have their own strengths. In order to make them develop better, he also needs to improve his professional level and make himself more comprehensive.
[China Net]: In your creative career for so many years, are there any works that you are most proud of? [Chen Yuanlong]: I was born in 1952. According to our modern saying, I am middle-aged and I need to learn a lot. I have to continue to study hard in my business to make myself more comprehensive. There are some satisfactory works now, but I hope I can create better works in the future. The best is always the next picture.
[China Net]: What kind of state is the development of flower-and-bird painting in China?
[Chen Yuanlong]: A few years ago, there were only about 22 students in our school who applied for the flower-and-bird painting major in China. The situation has improved this year. Our school aims to recruit 20 students, with 26 applicants. The school leaders asked me for advice. I mean, all 26 people took part. Since the students are interested in learning, let's all take them with us. The purpose is to develop and promote our Chinese painting and traditional culture. In recent years, the number of applicants for our major has not only increased year by year, but also attracted more and more international attention.
