The meaning of the last supper
Ceng Fanzhi's The Last Supper is based on the Italian Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci's work of the same name, but this work changed all religious figures into masked young pioneers and ate watermelons at the dinner table with a red scarf. This work is a metaphor for China, where the economy is developing day by day. The red scarf represents the ideal of * * *, while Judas in the original work is played by a character wearing a gold western-style tie. For Ceng Fanzhi, this represents the abandonment of the socialist ideal in the new era. The artist once said, "The gold tie represents money and western capitalism. It was only in the 1680s that ties became popular in China. "Wearing a tie is undoubtedly a signal of social change in China, while the hanging picture of China's calligraphy style on the wall and the dazzling red watermelon on the table represent China. The Last Supper is magnificent, capturing the changes of China society during the economic reform in the11990s, and it is a very representative work in contemporary China art.
