Portrait of Dong Qichang
Dong Qichang is good at painting and calligraphy. In painting, it has the reputation of "Southern Dong Qichang" and "Northern Rice Bay". In terms of calligraphy, it combines the strengths of various schools, making its own calligraphy surpass its predecessors and leaving a distinct mark in the long history of China's calligraphy.
Dong Qichang started his career after the founding of the Party. But his official career was not smooth, and he went in and out of the court several times. Due to the bumpy official career, his political ambition has not been well exerted. When he resigned and returned to his hometown, he improved his painting and calligraphy. I studied my previous experience in painting and calligraphy in a special research institute, and organized painting and calligraphy lovers to discuss painting and calligraphy knowledge with myself in the workshop. In addition, he copied a large number of famous calligraphers such as Wang Xizhi and Yan Zhenqing, from which he got creative inspiration and created his own calligraphy beauty.
Later generations spoke highly of Dong Qichang's achievements in painting and calligraphy. In Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kangxi and Gan Long praised Dong Qichang's calligraphy and made a lot of descriptions in their spare time. In addition, Dong Qichang's theory of "Southern and Northern Schools" has also become the core of literati painting.
Dong Qichang's achievements in painting and calligraphy have a far-reaching impact on the development of later generations. In calligraphy, his works "Bai Juyi Pipa" and "Jinsha Tie" are widely circulated all over the world. His paintings "The Golden Palace" and "Yuan Lin Xiu" are still treasured by the museum.
After Dong Qichang's death, later generations often went to Dong Qichang's tomb and Dong Qichang's former residence to pay tribute to this great calligrapher.

Dong Qichang's Calligraphy Appreciation
Dong Qichang's four poems are Night in a Bird Cage, Painter's Frost Scenes Mixed with Smoke Scenes and Ding Youdong's Yanshan Mountains. These four poems are inspired by Dong Qichang's resignation and his seclusion in his hometown. Dong Qichang likes painting and calligraphy. When he lived in seclusion, he wandered between mountains and rivers in search of creative inspiration. In his poem Night in Tottori Temple, he found an ancient stone tablet in Tottori Temple, looked at it and expressed his feelings. "Weixi's inscription and inscription reading" is his deep concern for the country and people. Dong Qichang entered the officialdom at the age of 35, but his career was not smooth, which also reflected the instability of the current national situation. As a citizen of Amin Dynasty, Dong Qichang could not serve the country. He wrote this sentence to express his inner feelings.
When people talk about Dong Qichang, they first think of Dong Qichang's paintings and calligraphy, but often ignore his academic status. Naturally, they will gradually forget his poems. Fortunately, Dong Qichang left a few poems, and in the process of reading, he was able to appreciate his personality and conduct.

Dong Qichang and Yuan Keli were two famous ministers in the late Ming Dynasty. Dong Qichang is famous for being good at painting and calligraphy, while Yuan Keli is praised for his honest advice.
Dong Qichang wrote an inscription for Yuan Keli.
Dong Qichang and Yuan Keli appreciated each other in their early years and became lifelong bosom friends. Tell their stories. Born in poverty, Dong Qichang always wanted to enter the officialdom through the imperial examination and realize his life ambition. However, he failed to pass the exam many times. Later, he had a dream, in which he roughly said that only one person named Yuan Keli would take the imperial examination himself, and Dong Qichang would succeed. Dong Qichang looked everywhere for a scholar named Yuan Keli. After several days of searching, he gave up the idea. Later, Dong Qichang came to Suiyang from his hometown to do business and met a boy with extraordinary temperament. Upon inquiry, the boy's name was Yuan Keli. Dong Qichang is very happy. Knowing that Yuan Keli's family was poor, he promised to help Yuan Keli to take Yuan Keli home and take care of his food, clothing, housing and transportation. Later, they all took the imperial examination and entered the officialdom smoothly together.
Although Dong Qichang is seven years older than Yuan Keli, they have become lifelong companions.
