A Brief History of Xiapu No.1 Middle School

Xiapu No.1 Middle School was founded in 1902 (the 28th year of Guangxu). Under the influence of the ideological trend of "Abolishing Imperial Examination and Promoting Learning", Li Zengkai, the magistrate of Funing, founded Ning Jun Middle School. In the 6th year of the Republic of China (19 17), Fujian Provincial Department of Education was officially transformed into "Fujian Provincial No.3 Middle School", and it has experienced such historical periods as Fujian Provincial No.3 Junior Middle School, Xiapu County Simple Rural Normal School, Xiaanding County Lilian Junior High School and Xiapu County Junior High School. After the founding of New China, it was renamed as Xiapu County Middle School, and was designated as a provincial key middle school in 1958, officially named as "Fujian Xiapu No.1 Middle School", and was confirmed as a second-class standard school for provincial ordinary middle schools in 1996. After a hundred years of vicissitudes, Xiapu No.1 Middle School has trained tens of thousands of useful talents for China's revolution and construction. Among them, there are many outstanding people, such as Du Xingyuan, former secretary-general of the State Council, Professor Huang Shouqi, former vice-president of Fujian Normal University, a famous expert in Yi Studies, a famous archaeologist, historian and calligrapher, etc. In the war years filled with smoke, many alumni risked their lives and gave their young lives for justice, democracy and justice. Images of many martyrs, such as Chen Ziying, acting secretary of Mindong Working Committee, Ye Tingquan, member of Mindong Working Committee of Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi Provincial Committee and organization minister, have been permanently engraved on the historical monument of the school.
