Original text:
Without success, it is not a mountain.
Dig nine steps, no less than mizawa.
He who walks a hundred miles is half ninety, and the fox helps his tail.
As the saying goes, time never comes again.
It is a gentleman to start from scratch.
Translation:
A basket of soil is needed, and a hill will not be built. Even if you drill 90% wells, you can't get springs. A hundred miles and ninety miles is only half the journey. The fox crossed the river and almost crossed it. The result is still bumpy and dangerous, even the tail is wet. Therefore, time flies, and time is gone forever. A gentleman should always be cautious and alert.
"Lack of success, don't build a hill" comes from Shangshu. No mountain can be built without a basket of soil.
"Nine-order digging wells is not inferior to water" comes from Mencius. Even if you dig 90% of the wells, you can't reach the spring.
"Those who travel a hundred miles are half ninety" comes from the Warring States policy. If he walks 90 miles in a hundred miles, he can only be considered to have covered half the distance.
"Little foxes help tails" comes from the Book of Changes. Fox almost crossed the river, but it was still bumpy and dangerous, and even his tail was wet.
