Dream of a brothel, formerly known as A Brief History of Red Flowers, was written in Guangxu four years (1878), with sixty-four chapters. The author is Yu Da, a native of Changzhou (now Suzhou), Jiangsu Province. After a lifetime of notoriety, he often went to restaurants and brothels. Jin Cuo-xiang, the hero in Dream of a Brothel, is his own incarnation. He used Dream of a Brothel to express his ideal. It was widely circulated at that time and had a great influence.
