Folk culture in Neihuang County

Neihuang is a sacred place for seeking roots and worshiping ancestors in China, the birthplace of traditional Chinese sacrificial culture and surname culture, and one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. It is China’s best green eco-tourism county, a national ecological demonstration county, and China’s greenest county. Xiaokang County is the hometown of China’s famous and high-quality economic forest jujube. There are currently 1 national-level key cultural relics protection units and 11 provincial-level key cultural relics protection units.

Neihuang is the hometown of Chinese folk art. Folk crafts, juggling, folk arts, etc. have a long history and unique style. Folk arts such as peasant paintings, wheat straw paintings, willow root paintings, root carvings, calligraphy, and falling tunes have long been famous. Shadow puppets, printing, paper-cutting, embroidery, lantern paintings, paper binding, and family tree paintings are all over the countryside. "Neihuang Peasant Painting" is a foreign affairs gift designated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Peasant paintings originated from ancient murals. They have simple lines, bright colors, and vivid shapes. They are mainly red, green, yellow, blue, and black single colors, and use unique local earthen pigments to form a strong folk color, with "simple, "Simple and honest" character modeling and "clumsy, clumsy, rough and black" expressions. In 1992, the National Art Museum of China held the "Neihuang Modern Folk Painting Exhibition". In 1999, it was exhibited in Singapore and Japan as a foreign exchange project of Henan Province. In 2009, it was designated as a foreign affairs gift by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Wheat straw painting is a lost Sui Dynasty palace handicraft in China. It has a history of thousands of years. It gives people a simple, natural, noble and elegant beauty. Luoqiang, Neihuang peasant paintings, pole puppets, wooden New Year pictures, Luoju opera, etc. have been included in the list of intangible cultural heritage and are now included in the "List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Henan Province".

Luoqiang was selected into the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage list in 2010, in the category of traditional drama projects, serial number 9.
