What do you think are the characteristics of Gong's calligraphy?
During the Qianlong period of Gong's calligraphy, literati and calligraphers had consciously realized the interest of stone carvings in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, and it became a trend to learn from them. This is evident in Gong's calligraphy. This should be the key to Gong's unique calligraphy. It can be said that he stayed in Shanxi for three years, and the art of calligraphy has made great progress, which is enough to make him feel gratified. Gong's calligraphy has not been widely displayed for a long time, because of its geographical conditions in Sichuan and Sichuan and its humble official position. Today, I appreciate his books very much, such as his eight-screen masterpiece (figure 168), which is bold and vigorous, smooth and exciting to read. He is a little later than "Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics", but his aesthetic view of calligraphy coincides with his creative thinking. His evaluation of poetry is: "If you don't use the past for the present, use it for yourself, be an unrestrained teacher, and never forget yourself when you touch the past, you will lose the meaning of' what you say will come out'." (quoted from calligraphy series) Not only on poetry, but also on calligraphy.
