Chapter 1
This competition is divided into two stages: preliminary and final. In the preliminary competition, our teachers and students presented us with many excellent works, using their discerning eyes and skills. Hands and craftsmanship show us the smoothness of flowing clouds and flowing water, the sharpness of the back of the paper, the elegance of understatement and the boldness of thick ink. After preliminary screening, only about 100 teachers and students have entered the finals. The finals are divided into two parts. One part is the on-site display of sketches, simple drawings and paper-cutting; the other part is chalk, pen, brush calligraphy and painting. For on-site creation and display, let me briefly introduce the relevant rules for on-site creation and display:
1. There are two types of works: painting and calligraphy. There are no restrictions on calligraphy style, painting type and content.
2. The creation time is 1 hour, and the unfinished draft will be submitted to the Student Affairs Office;
3. After the works of this competition are summarized, they will be reviewed by professional teachers. Three first prize winners, five second prize winners, and ten third prize winners for each type of works will be selected and certificates of honor will be issued.

Over the years, my paintings have gone through a long process. During the exploration process, Mr. Xu Beihong’s wife, Ms. Liao Jingwen, once said to me: “Mr. Xu Beihong once said that horse painting is an important topic in today’s painting world, and it is also a difficult topic that needs someone to research and develop.” Because pommel horse is regarded as an important subject in the traditional Chinese field, but the real freehand or freehand technique in pommel horse subject should be said to be pioneered by Mr. Beihong, who established a generation of painting style. After that, Liu Boshu, Mr. Yin Shoushi and other famous senior horse painters basically developed on this basis.
My painting of horses traditionally started from Xu Beihong and others. It went through a process from imitation to sketching, and then to exploring and finding my own pen and ink language. During my stay in Europe, I began to try to draw nourishment from Western painting, and applied the artistic techniques and effects of Western painting such as light and shadow, color, composition, etc. to my paintings of horses. I borrowed Western elements to enrich the relatively single painting mode in the past. After I took a teaching position at Shandong University, in addition to teaching, I also incorporated modern themes such as sports horse racing and equestrian club riders into my creations. Four years ago, on the recommendation of the leaders of the Public Security Department, I went to the Dalian Women’s Mounted Police to collect and sketch, and the mounted police became the object of my creative expression. In short, over the years, in my pommel horse creation practice, I have been constantly exploring and pursuing in terms of brushwork, artistic conception, subject matter and form. It is hoped that the connotation of the traditional theme of pommel horse will be enriched with the times. It is constantly enriched, enriched and carried forward in the expression of contemporary art. In addition, some of the works of my graduate students have also participated in this exhibition, and I hope to receive your criticism and testimonials.
I think today is a report exhibition, a periodic report to the teachers, leaders, friends, and colleagues in Tai'an. It is also an opportunity for me to learn. I hope that all the guests will comment on my paintings. Your valuable opinions will help me continue to summarize and improve.
