He Guangnian's Calligraphy Works

He Guangnian (1925~2003), Building 50, 1925 was born in Changsha in February. Graduated from Changsha Normal University majoring in classical literature. He used to be a secretary, editor, statistician, Chinese teacher, drama art advisory member of provincial cultural bureau, and president of Changsha Institute of Arts and Crafts. He is a poet and calligrapher with a unique style. He used to be an editor, teacher and dean of the Academy of Fine Arts. He was a research librarian of Hunan literature and history, a member of China Calligraphers Association, an honorary director of Hunan Calligraphers Association, a consultant of Hunan Poetry Association and a consultant of Changsha Calligraphers Association.

Throughout He Guangnian's cursive works, we should savor the tranquility, purity and simplicity contained in them, which are beyond the reach of ordinary calligraphers. The brushwork is simple, the structure is rigorous, and finally it comes out with a brilliant and rambling style. Artistic language is extremely pure and ancient. It can also be said that He Guangnian's cursive script is not as complicated and sometimes messy as their "redundant pen", but as exquisite and eye-catching as a copyist. Compared with the copyist, the latter obviously does not have his simplicity, the strange spirits and the surprises on earth. It is a pity that He Guangnian's running script is a bit sloppy and playful, lacking profligacy, and has a sense of self-sufficiency in ancient songs, but lacks a spirit of agitation. There are seven sages of bamboo forest born in Wei and Jin Dynasties, but there is no romantic pride of Qu Yuan.
