The Difference between Midian Landscape and Dot Painting

Although the two schools of painting have the word "point" in their names, they are quite different.

"Midian Landscape" is a branch of ancient ink painting in China. The founder was Mi Fei, one of the four great calligraphers in the Northern Song Dynasty. Inspired by the misty and rainy Yunshan smoke trees along the Yangtze River, he made new creations on the basis of Dong Yuan's painting method. Mi Fei's paintings of mountains and rivers are mostly ink-and-wash, and he is not limited to the traditional painting method of focusing on lines and scratching. He calls himself "faithful to the pen, and more trees and stones are shaded by clouds, which seems to be enough". Give full play to the effect of ink and ink fusion and ink smudge, and form a subtle and vague charm.

"pointillism" means "new impressionism", also known as "color separation". It is a school of painting that uses polka dots to paint. The decomposition of light and color is developed from the principle of light and color of impressionism. For example, the red in the primary color is painted on the screen, and then the blue brush strokes are painted in parallel under the red brush strokes. Standing at a certain distance, the two colors of the screen just mix into purple.

From the introduction, the main differences are as follows:

1. From the creative intention, the former is to express clouds; The latter is to express light and shadow.

2. From the perspective of expression, the former turns the outline (line) into dots, and the number is blurred with ink; The latter color separation fractal is expressed by dot strokes.

3. From the artistic effect, the former creates an implicit and vague artistic conception of mountains and rivers; The latter makes people appreciate the world of light and shadow and colorful.
