See how to answer common questions in calligraphy.

People often ask what posts should be posted at the beginning or at a certain stage. They often ask, "What do you think I should post?" Or "which one should I learn?" Or "Why should I post?" More often, people will ask, "Why can't I always post?" There are many questions. According to my personal understanding, I will try to discuss it here.

Post here as an agent for samples and templates. The mode of temporary learning is not to be exactly the same as it, not to be written as a handwritten copy, but to take the mode as a score for practicing skills. For example, practicing the piano, facing the bullets of famous songs every day, practicing basic skills. Of course, the initial requirements are similar. It is the purpose of the post to learn all the methods in the model and apply them to the words you want to write.

What position to choose depends entirely on several conditions.

What style of writing do you like, just like a hobby of taste, others can't come up with an idea. Secondly, which position is it? In ancient times, it was difficult not only to get the original works of famous artists, but also to get good rubbings. I don't know how many people have learned a model but never practiced it all their lives. Now the copying technology is developed, and good samples can be bought everywhere. If you study according to hobbies or "sexual proximity", there will be no "twice the result with half the effort" effect.

Can I change the template?

Learning anything requires a stable and proficient stage, but if you find that the template at hand is really unpalatable or contrary to your personality, why not learn another one? It's not good to "see things differently" casually, but what's wrong with "change when things get better" (the Book of Changes)?

Why can't I always be there?

It is impossible for anyone to learn someone else's handwriting. If you like it or it is realistic, then this signature is legally invalid. So Wang Xianzhi's handwriting can't be very similar to Wang Xizhi's, and Mi Youren's handwriting can't be very similar to Mi Fei's. Su Zhe's ci can't be very similar to Su Shi's, nor can Cai Bian's ci be very similar to Cai Jing's. As the saying goes, "Although you are a father and a brother, you can't move your son" (Cao Pi's language), let alone an ancient man who has never met before? Learning in class is a learning method, not a fake post. Learning to seek "similarity" is for the "accuracy" of the method.

How are some features of the words on the tablet written?

For example, Fang Bi in the Longmen Statue and Yan Zhenqing, how should we learn?

In any case, the tapered brush head can't write a square stroke like "knife cutting axe cutting". Those square strokes on the tablet are all traces left by knife carving. Therefore, seeing the ink of that era and looking at the rubbings of stone carvings, it is not difficult to understand that the strokes in the original book should be what they were before engraving. If we can master the main trajectory of the density of strokes, even if we look at those knife marks and axe marks, it can be a reference for calligraphy.

As for Yan's foot pressing, there is another path, which is caused by the characteristics of the writing brush method in the Tang Dynasty. The central "main front" of Tang pen is harder and longer, and the "auxiliary hair" beside it gradually becomes shorter, forming a half-jujube pit. After pressing the foot, when lifting the pen, the auxiliary hair stops, and the main front still leaves traces at the pen lifting place, just like adding a small tip. This is not only the case with pens, but also often happens when the hook of the pen is vertical downward and then to the left. The predecessors called it "crab claw", which is the result of the inconsistency between the main front and the auxiliary front.

Which one should we learn?

The so-called "style" refers to a certain person or a certain calligraphy style. Let's take a look at some monuments and posts written by ancient people, which are often different. What kind of body do we learn and where is the boundary? That man has no absolute fixed boundaries on his own works, so how can we learn from him? I'm afraid it's not credible to say that whoever learns first will learn later. There is also a saying that characters have seal script first, then official script, and then official script, so to have "root" and "source", you must learn official script well before you can write regular script well. We see that chickens are hatched from eggs, but people who have never seen pictures must learn to draw eggs before they can draw chickens!

"Force" in strokes

Others misunderstand the "force" in strokes, thinking that it is necessary to write hard to appear. In fact, the "force" of strokes is due to its accurate trajectory, which gives the viewer a feeling of "force". If fingers, wrists, elbows, arms, etc. They are consciously used when writing, and those places are bound to be rigid and can't write a beautiful "sense of power." Some people deliberately pursue some "majestic", "tall and straight", "handsome" and "simple". This is not only impossible, but also impossible to write as an ordinary word. In the Qing Dynasty, Weng Fanggang wrote a poem on a vague ancient post, saying, "It is better to use a pen first." We really can't imagine that the pen was muddy before it fell, unless the calligrapher was a baby.

How many words should I write every day?

This is the same as the problem of eating several meals a day. Everyone's appetite is different, so it is not consistent. Always eat when the appetite is strong, which is easy to digest and absorb. It is the purpose and requirement for students to have a quota for their homework, and it is also the purpose and requirement for enthusiasts to practice calligraphy, so they cannot be equated. I have a friend who writes a few words every day, and all of them are written in Zhang Qianbei. They are piled on the ground, two piles are one person high. I'll read it carefully. The top is not as good as the bottom. Because he is tired of writing, he still wants to write, just to "complete the task". In addition to the idea of "making a job" for himself, he also has the idea of showing others "results". In fact, the real "success" is not "quantity".

Some people misunderstand the word "kung fu". It is called "Kung Fu" to think that time is long and quantity is large. In fact, "Kung Fu" is the accumulation of "accuracy". Skilled and accurate writing is the result of kung fu. For example, if you shoot a target with a gun and shoot a hundred bullets blindly every day, you might as well shoot one with your hands and eyes. It would be nice if you could shoot twice at a time. Therefore, it can be said: "Kung Fu is not the sum of time and quantity blindly, but accurate repetition and proficiency."
