Introduction to the attractions of the "May 3rd" Memorial Park:

The May 3rd Memorial Park is located on the west moat The southern section was built in 1986 to commemorate the May 3rd Massacre in Jinan. In 1928, the National Revolutionary Army occupied Jinan, and Japanese imperialism sent troops to intervene under the pretext of protecting Japanese overseas Chinese. On May 3, they brutally murdered 17 diplomats including Cai Gongshi, the special negotiator of the National Government in Shandong, and then occupied the entire city, killing nearly 10,000 Chinese soldiers and citizens, creating the Jinan May 3rd Massacre that shocked both China and the world. Shuncheng Street, just outside Xichenggen, all the houses were burned and no residents were spared. It was later renamed Wusan Street. The May 3rd Memorial Garden is built here.

On the east bank of the river, a stone tablet is erected, in the shape of a square pyramid, with the nine characters "Monument to the May 3rd Massacre in Jinan" engraved on it. It is modeled on the original monument built by the Shandong Provincial Government at the Dai Temple in Tai'an that year (May 1929). The south and north sides of the monument are surrounded by junipers and cypresses, and are complemented by flower corridors. On the east side of the monument is the newly completed May 3rd Massacre Memorial in September 1995 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. The monument consists of two parts: a lying stele and a relief wall. It runs north-south, is 4.25 meters high and 17 meters long. It is built of black granite. On the east side is a sleeping monument, surrounded by iron guardrails on the north, south and east sides. The monument is engraved with six characters inscribed by contemporary calligrapher Wu Zhongqi: Jinan Massacre Site.

In the center of the lying stele is a giant raised white marble desk calendar. The year, month and date of the May 3rd Massacre are engraved on the right page, and "A Brief History of the Jinan Massacre" is engraved on the left page, written by Wuzhong Qishudan. The left and right sides of the desk calendar are decorated with wreaths carved in white marble. On the west side of the stele is a relief wall, facing west, with a relief of "National Humiliation" engraved on it. This relief adopts the artistic techniques of Han portrait stone carving and uses a combination of documentary, symbolic and allegorical techniques to reproduce the scene of the May 3rd Massacre in Jinan. The red bells carved on both ends bear in mind the national humiliation, and the warning bell rings with eight characters.

On the west bank of the river, there are many cedars, wintersweets and green bamboos planted. In the garden, there are small boats in the clear stream and stone tables and benches under the shade. While paying their respects, visitors can take a dip in the water, enjoy the beautiful scenery on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, or sit on a stone bench to take a rest.
