Since Nian Gengyao was transferred to Hangzhou General, he was demoted again and again by Yongzheng, but he refused to bow to Yongzheng to admit his mistake. Soon after, ministers inside and outside the imperial court began to jointly play, exposing Nian Gengyao's past crimes. In such anger, even if Yong Zhengdi intends to protect him, it will not help. Finally, I had to bow down to the courtiers and cut Nian Gengyao's office. However, even in this case, Nian Gengyao still insisted, unwilling to bow to Yongzheng.
In September of the third year of Yongzheng, Yong Zhengdi ordered Nian Gengyao to be escorted back to Beijing for joint hearing. Three months later, the minister in charge of interrogating Nian Gengyao presented the interrogation results to Yong Zhengdi, listing 92 counts of Nian Gengyao. Yong Zhengdi was furious and ordered Nian Gengyao to commit suicide in prison. His son was beheaded when he was young.
After Nian Gengyao was executed, Yong Zhengdi realized that the friendship with Nian Gengyao in the past did not embarrass Nianjia, so Nianjia was not greatly implicated. Nian Gengyao's father was far away, and his younger brother Xirao Nian was dismissed from office, but he saved his life. The remaining philosophers in Nian Gengyao were sent to defend the frontier. Two years later, they were pardoned by Yong Zhengdi and handed over to young people for discipline.
Nian Gengyao is the pillar of the whole Nian Gengyao family, but he did not set foot in the Nian Gengyao family after the fall of Nian Gengyao, which may also be because of the last mutual affection between him and Yongzheng. So, why would Nian Gengyao rather die than bow to Yongzheng to admit his mistake? What the hell is he insisting on? If he had bowed mainly to Yongzheng, perhaps the couple could have finished the project from beginning to end, instead of ending up like this.
The reason why Nian Gengyao was sentenced to fall out of favor is actually very simple, that is, the word arrogance. Yong Zhengdi was able to become emperor, thanks to Nian Gengyao and Nian Gengyao, which made Yong Zhengdi more and more fond of Nian Gengyao. Two years before Yongzheng ascended the throne, in the personnel changes of the imperial court, Yong Zhengdi approved all the candidates recommended by Nian Gengyao. In the area under Nian Gengyao's jurisdiction, all civil and military officials, big and small, were appointed on the advice of the general in 1998.
After Nian Gengyao put down the rebellion in Qinghai, Yongzheng regarded Nian Gengyao as the "benefactor" of the Qing Dynasty. In order to make people remember Nian Gengyao's contribution, Yong Zhengdi also deliberately said this in public: "Not only do I cherish my heart and repay it as soon as possible, but my descendants and subjects all over the world should be grateful." . If you are a little ungrateful, you are not my descendant; If you are a little disloyal, you are not my subject. "
Many people think that small Shenyang is a big hit in the Qing Dynasty, but in fact, Nian Gengyao is a big hit in the Qing Dynasty. Yongzheng's kindness to Nian Gengyao is beyond words. After Nian Gengyao put down the rebellion in Qinghai, Yong Zhengdi called him to Beijing and said to him:
"I am not a good emperor, I can't repay you for your kindness to me; I am not a superior minister, and I can't promise to see you. " Later, Yong Zhengdi also told Nian Gengyao: "I am thinking of becoming a model through the ages."
It was because of Yong Zhengdi's trust that Nian Gengyao was unwilling to believe that Yong Zhengdi would really do this to him until his death. From the second year of Yongzheng, Yong Zhengdi began to be dissatisfied with Nian Gengyao. Because Nian Gengyao on the way to Beijing for the second time, openly let the commander-in-chief Fan Shijie, Zhili Governor Li and other court officials kneel down to see him off. When he arrived in Beijing, facing the court minister who greeted him, Nian Gengyao didn't even bother to dismount and entered the city. It's not decent at all.
What's more, Nian Gengyao is not only arrogant in front of princes and ministers, but also very arrogant in front of Yongzheng, and has no ministerial etiquette. When Nian Gengyao left Beijing, Yong Zhengdi specially gave Nian Gengyao an imperial edict, including this passage:
"It is easy for mortals to work hard and difficult to succeed; It is easy to succeed, but it is difficult to keep working; It is easy to keep one's job, but it is difficult to achieve it in the end. ..... If you rely on your strengths, you will turn your back on your kindness and become an enemy. This has always been the case. "
Yong Zhengdi has reminded Nian Gengyao to pay attention to his words and deeds in the imperial edict, and asked him to restrain himself. But Nian Gengyao was able to shrug off, and still went his own way, so that he got himself into trouble. If Nian Gengyao can carefully read the imperial edict given to him by Yong Zhengdi, and then reflect on what he has done over the years, he may not be attacked by ministers at home and abroad because he is too arrogant.
Nian Gengyao would rather die than bow to Yong Zhengdi to admit his mistake, because he didn't want to believe that Yongzheng would really do this to him until he died. He spent all his thoughts on thinking about why Yongzheng changed his attitude towards him, instead of thinking about what he did wrong in these years. He is too dependent on Yong Zhengdi's favor, and he doesn't want to believe that Yong Zhengdi will really do something. If Nian Gengyao knew a little about other people's way of life, maybe he and Yong Zhengdi would really become the model of ancient monarch and minister.
