Xitian Temple is located at No. 75 Yixing Street, Longhua District, Haikou City.
Xitian Temple covers an area of ??1,193 square meters. The original building area is more than 900 square meters. It has three entrances to the main room. There is a patio between the first entrance and the second entrance. Between the third entrance and the third entrance is the worship pavilion, with east and west corridors on both sides of the worship pavilion.
The entire temple is a brick and wood structure with T-shaped brackets (single-type brackets). There is a stone horizontal plaque with the words "Xitian Temple" engraved on the head, which was written by Zhang Yuesong, a famous calligrapher from Qiongji Tanhua in the Qing Dynasty. The indoor painted pillars and carved beams are of exquisite craftsmanship. There are complete sets of woodcuts and story paintings on the brackets and walls. The characters in the story are lifelike. It is a rare ancient building preserved in our province. It has historical, artistic and scientific research value. In 1985, the Haikou Municipal People's Government announced it as a key cultural relic protection unit.
Xitian Temple commemorates figures
Xitian Temple is a commemorative building dedicated to Wang Zuo. Wang Zuo, a native of Lingao, Hainan, had read extensively throughout his life, was talented, and had poems handed down from generation to generation. His main works include: "Catalogue of Classics", "Collection of Chicken Ribs", "Qiongtai Waiji", "Zhuya Lu", etc. He was once known as one of the talented scholars in Lingnan. He and Qiu Jun, Hai Rui, Zhang Yuesong and others He was also called "the Four Wonders of Hainan" by later generations, but he was not recognized for his talent. For more than 20 years after joining the benevolent government, he has been working as a co-president in Gaozhou Prefecture, Linjiang Prefecture, and Shaowu Prefecture. He has never been an official. He was 85 years old.
While Wang Zuo was an official, he was upright and honest, and was well-liked by others. His achievements in serving the people are recorded in the Shaowu Mansion Annals. He was erudite and talented and left a rich cultural heritage for future generations. Later generations built temples to commemorate him.
