The romantic literary talent of two talented women in the Tang Dynasty

Not long ago, I wrote an introduction to five talented women in the Tang Dynasty. After posting it on my blog, it aroused heated discussion. Some netizens criticized me, saying that my introduction was not detailed enough. In order to satisfy the wishes of these netizens, here are the two talented women who I ranked first (number one) and third (third overall), namely Li Jilan and Xue Tao, and talk about them in a little detail. Blog text is different from academic papers (friends often criticize my blog text based on the standards of academic papers. This is a sign of their high expectations for me, not that they do not understand the characteristics of online writing). Therefore, I try to choose something light-hearted. Let’s talk about the topic: Let’s just talk about the romantic and literary talents of the two of them.

The main reason why these two talented women were selected is that they are both talented women who can be called "sexy and artistic".

Li Jilan, "The Biography of Talented Scholars of the Tang Dynasty" said that she has "beautiful appearance and a relaxed expression", which shows that she is undoubtedly a beauty. This beauty is not only good at composing poems, but also good at playing the piano. How good are Li Jilan's poems? Her contemporaries, Liu Changqing, who calls himself the "Five Characters Great Wall", and Gao Zhongwu, the famous critic who edited "Zhongxing Jianqi Collection", both spoke highly of her. Liu called her a "hero among women", and Gao Zhongwu praised her highly. Shi praised it and said, "Since Bao Zhao and below, there are few others like him."

Li Jilan's romantic literary talent is mainly reflected in his interactions with a group of male poets. After Li Jilan became a monk, he traveled around Shaoxing and sang poems with the hermit Lu Yu and the monk Jiao Ran, and had close contacts. Once, Jiaoran wrote the following four lines in a poem in reply to Li Jilan: "The goddess came to test her, and she dyed her clothes with flowers. She couldn't find the Zen heart, and she returned home holding the old flowers." It can be imagined that they were together. His speech and behavior were quite casual.

What was even more casual was when I was with Liu Changqing and others. Once at a gathering with a group of literati at Kaiyuan Temple in Wucheng (today's Wuxing), Li Jilan learned that Liu Changqing had a "yin serious disease", that is, hernia disease, so he made fun of Tao Yuanming's poem "The mountain air is getting better day by day". Of course, Liu Changqing was not a dull person, so he responded: "All birds are happy to have their support." It is also a poem by Tao Yuanming. Afraid that some very pure friends may not understand, I will explain it in a nonchalant manner: Li Jilan used "山气" (山气), which is a homophone for "hernia", and pointed directly at the most private part of Liu Changqing's body; Liu Changqing did not shy away and used "niao" (niao) to refer to " "bird" (diao), indicating that enlarged scrotum is also useful - the second child has something to rely on. To use Tao Yuanming's poem, daya; refers to the secret part of the body, dasu. Using elegance to describe elegance is romantic. It is said that the effect at that time was "everyone laughed" and "the commentators were both impressed". In other words, their romance was recognized by people at the time.

Xue Tao is undoubtedly a versatile woman. As we all know, in addition to composing poetry and playing music, she also invented the technology of making small-sized poems and notes, which was named "Xue Tao's Notes". In addition, according to "Xuanhe Shupu", her calligraphy is also very good, "her writing is unfeminine, her writing is strong and powerful, and the beauty of her calligraphy is quite worthy of Wang Xi's method". During the Northern Song Dynasty, some people still collected the original poem "Hemerocallis" written by Xue Tao.

Xue Tao's poetic talent is well known. I have introduced it briefly in my article. Here I will talk about her eloquence.

In the social arena, the ancients used eight words to describe Xue Tao: "alert, leisurely, and lively in conversation and laughter." Xue Tao played a game called "Thousand-Character Order" with a governor at a banquet. The recited "Thousand-Character Order" must contain a word for bird, fish, bird or beast. The governor first said "There is Yu Taotang", and the other guests at the table suppressed their laughter and did not punish him. When it was Xue Tao's turn, she said "Sa Shi A Heng". The governor immediately pointed out that Xue Tao's sentence did not contain the word fish or bird, and wanted to punish Xue Tao. Xue Tao smiled and said: "There is a small fish roe in the word "heng". Your sentence "You Yu Tao Tang", Shijun (called the governor), does not actually have a word "fish" in it." It seems that this governor is a rough man. I don’t know Chinese characters – I used “Yu” as “鱼”. Another time, Xue Tao once played a game of "Yi Zi Ling" with Gao Pian, the highest official in Chengdu (Xichuan Jiedushi) and also a poet. The method was to propose a pictographic character and then use a rhyming sentence to explain it. Gao Pian first said: "The mouth is like a beam without a beam." A beam is also a handle. Xue Tao added without thinking: "The river looks like three rafters.

"Gao Pian asked why the river was not one but three. Xue Tao answered him: "You are a great military governor of Xichuan, but you still use a handleless bucket (measuring vessel). A poor person like me There are three rafters in the wine girl's house, and one of them is curved. Is there any wonder? "She cleverly transformed the word "Chuan" which means river into the word "(roof) rafters" through homophony. 9 7 3 1 2 4 8 :
