Wuguilou was built by Huang, a descendant of Liang Nongren, for the collection of books. According to Huang's genealogy, Huang Dingyuan settled in the late Tang Dynasty, and later passed on to the sixth generation Yuan, giving birth to eight sons. Among them, five sons including Huang Biteng graduated from1159-1170. In the past, they were called "the moon won the laurel", so they were called "Five". Song Gaozong attached great importance to them, saying that "economic talents are macro knowledge". Later, Woods was commended at the same time, and Gaozong presented a poem "The Return of Woods", in which there was a sentence "Fairy returns to Xiangzi". In the Ming Dynasty, it was circulated as "Five Guifangchuan". When Huang built this building, he named it "Five Ghosts Building" in memory of five ancestors. The three characters on the plaque were written by Hu Qin, a calligrapher in Qing Dynasty, with vigorous brushwork. This building is unique in architecture, with a "middle" shape on the roof. Look at the second floor. It's actually three floors. The upper floor can be insulated from heat and moisture, and there are hidden rare books, which are said to have been preserved here in many historical turmoil. There are 24 bookcases upstairs, with an initial collection of more than 50,000 rare books, as well as many famous paintings, inscriptions and manuscripts. After Huang's death, his son Huang bought more than ten thousand books. According to the Bibliography of Wuguilou of Huang Family in Yaojiang compiled during Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, there are more than 60,000 books such as Shangshu Subset. In the past hundred years, although there have been many storms, the collection of books has not suffered man-made disasters. Although some were lost in the war, most of them were preserved. 1956 The provincial library transferred more than 6,000 volumes, and now there are 9,993 volumes. Looking up the catalogue, most of them belong to the ancient culture column of the Thirteen Classics, among which the Book of Changes, such as Analysis of the Book of Changes, Meaning in One, and Reprint of the Thirteen Classics, is still a treasure house for studying ancient culture.
At that time, it was stipulated that children and grandchildren were allowed to go upstairs to study, and domestic and foreign scholars were also allowed to go upstairs to watch and read. Where readers come from afar, they will be provided with free accommodation and a bibliography of Wuguilou will be set up for reference.
Looking up from Wugui Building, you can see the 72 peaks of Siming Mountain, which surround Liang Long Town like a screen, with Nanfeng in the north and Xigu in the east. The peaks are exquisite and undulating, so Wugui Building is also called the "72-peak Caotang". The original horizontal tablet still exists, written by Lv Jianshan, a calligrapher in the Qing Dynasty. This thatched cottage is a place for teaching and lecturing, and all bachelors and celebrities are invited to give lectures in Yanchang. Therefore, Wuguilou is not only a library, but also a private self-supporting academy, which has played an important role among the literati and students in Yuyao.
