How to learn official script
A large number of preserved Han steles show a colorful face in calligraphy style. Wang Shu, a calligrapher in Qing Dynasty, said:? Li Fa takes Han as the pole, and each monument is unique and has no similarities. ? It points out the diversity of calligraphy styles of Han tablet.
There are not many inscriptions in the Western Han Dynasty. There are official characters, five phoenix carvings, Xiao Xiaoyu carvings, gifted scholar Hou carvings, Huo Qubing's tomb carvings in Lishu Inscriptions. The official script of the Western Han Dynasty tablet inscription was greatly influenced by the seal script, with strong seal meaning and less strokes pitching. It is a form of transition to a mature official script. Gu Zhuo is rich in color and simple and vigorous in style. The official script of the Eastern Han Dynasty has developed to a mature stage, and the beauty of the official script of the Eastern Han Dynasty is a must. The styles of Han steles can be roughly divided into: among them, Yiying stele, Shi Chenbei and Cao Quanbei belong to the category of beauty and beauty; Junfa's sparse exhibitions include: Confucius Monument, Han Dynasty, and the stone of Emperor Hou. Dense and dense are: Yellow River Xianbei, Ode to Pavilion and Zhang Qianbei; Simple and naive ones are: Ode to Xixia, Diary of Three Old People's Taboo, Anyang Residual Stone; Dignified and elegant are: Huashan Monument, Yinzhou Monument and Wangsheren Monument; Plump and heavy are: Fang Heng monument, army monument, school official monument; Vigorous are: Li Le Monument, Zheng Gu Monument and Zhang Jing Monument; One kind of strange addiction is: Shimen Song, Yang Huai Biao Ji, Feng Huanque; There are: Zhao Kuan Monument, Shi Pingjing and Remnant Monument. Classical and transcendental are: carved stone on the praise ramp, portrait of Liang Temple, carved stone by Liu Pingguo, etc. Ten types are summarized above, and each type lists three representative Han steles. In fact, it is difficult to be comprehensive and accurate. For what? Every monument has a miracle? Speaking of Han steles, it is inevitable that this classification is far-fetched. For the lovers of official script, they can only get information in person in front of the Han tablet with extremely diverse structure and brushwork.
The main characteristics of official script are as follows: official script is a kind of economical and easy method to write Xiao Zhuan, as Wei Heng said in Si Ti Shu in the Western Jin Dynasty. Li Shu, sealing the valerian also. ? The agility of official script is to change the strokes of seal script from circle to square fold, from arc to straight line, cut off the strokes of seal script, pause and change pens. These reasons caused the square of official script and laid the foundation of square Chinese characters. Due to the emergence of the pitch echo of stippling and the establishment of the wave-picking method, the official script has twists and turns, and the silkworm head and goose tail are horizontal and left, which has become the most distinctive stroke of official script. Official script gradually changed from the vertical position of seal script to the horizontal position; Formed the characteristics of tight middle palace, low center of gravity and wide and flat font. In the process of simplifying official script into seal script, there are many mistakes, resulting in many different ways of writing a word in official script, which is called heterogeneity. From the perspective of calligraphy, heterogeneity enriches the changes of glyphs. In the process of the evolution of Chinese characters, official script not only has the trace of the evolution of seal script, but also has the influence of cursive script in Han Dynasty, and also has the germination of regular script, so the rhyme, cursive script feeling and opening method of seal script can be seen in Han steles.
Another remarkable feature of the official script of the Han tablet is that the characters were originally written with a pen after calligraphy, and then carved by masons. Even skilled masons can't fully express the original brushwork. Therefore, the official script stippling on the Han tablet has a subtle and dignified feeling, which is not as delicate as the strokes on the ink, nor as clear as the brushstroke. Due to the age of the Han tablet and the special erosion, the unique charm of the official script of the Han tablet has been formed. However, as a learner of Han tablet, we should look at the pen through the blade and explore its internal writing skills and artistic charm.
Copying and Creation of Lishu
To learn calligraphy for beginners, we must first choose one of the many Han steles with different styles to learn official script. The criteria for selecting posts are that the calligraphy should be correct, upright and rigorous, with many words, clear words and complete brushwork, such as the tablets of Chen Shi, (Yi Mo), Huashan and Cao Quan. Of course, the selection of posts should also be based on everyone's brushwork and preferences. It's better to use the initial rubbings for copybooks, because the initial rubbings better retain the richness of the original calligraphy. When it is not easy to obtain good rubbings, photocopies can be used.
After selecting a post, you can start posting. There are three main ways to learn calligraphy: hook, copy and copy. The hook is made of transparent paper on the copybook, and the reflected words are checked out with very thin strokes, and then filled in with ink. Those who don't fill in ink are called double hooks. Copying is also copying copybooks with transparent paper, and copying their strokes and positions according to the reflected glyphs. Pro is to put the copybook in front of you, compare the words on the copybook, carefully observe and understand the stippling form, structural characteristics and writing methods of the words, and carefully imitate and write. The method of hooking is cumbersome and laborious, and copying and giving also have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, Jiang Baishi's "Continued Book Spectrum" said: Linshu is easy to lose the position of the ancients, but it has more brushwork of the ancients. Copying books is easy to get the position of the ancients, but it loses the meaning of the ancients. It is easy to enter a book, but easy to forget when copying it. It is also because you covered it with meaning and inadvertently copied it. ? Therefore, the method of temporary writing is mostly adopted by people.
Read more posts before writing. The so-called reading is to open the copybook, read it carefully, and pay attention to the stroke order, brushwork, structural characteristics and even charm of each word on the copybook. I have developed the habit of reading posts, and I can lay a good foundation for writing the words on the posts without referring to the copybooks.
After selecting the copybook, you should write it for a period of time, so that the written words can be similar to the font shape and stippling momentum of the original copybook, not perfect. In a word, we should neither change our ideas nor remain the same. With a certain foundation, changing a few posts to write will have a better grasp of brushwork and structure, and will also avoid the disadvantages of sticking to one post and jumping out too sweetly.
There are several points to pay attention to in writing exercises: don't be greedy in writing, just write a few words at a time. I often write dozens of words at a time, but I get nothing. Write a few words carefully and you will get something. It's best to write words bigger than the original post, which will make the strokes spread out and make it easy to see the strength of the bones. In general, some words on Han steles are damaged or rambling, with incomplete fonts and inconspicuous brushwork, and even some words with unsightly structure can be omitted.
From development to evolution and sublimation, official script has already formed a stereotyped style. Reform and innovation are very difficult, and every official script learner needs to improve his artistic accomplishment and aesthetic ability.
We should try to watch all kinds of excellent official script works in ancient and modern times repeatedly, improve our appreciation ability and draw nutrition from them. Besides calligraphy, we should also learn other arts, which will help enrich our knowledge and improve our creativity.
