Information about Sumala Gu

..........

Ma Lagu, whose original name was Sumer, was later rumored to be Aunt Sumala is probably the reason why Kangxi called her "gu".

Sumer, a Mongolian, was the maid of Bumbutai, the Borjijit family of Empress Xiaozhuangwen (Empress Xiaozhuangwen’s name was Bumbutai, also translated as Benbutai, but regardless of What's her name? It's definitely not Dayu'er, but her younger sister from the same race, Dorgon's Fujin nickname, is Xiaoyu). Sumer was about five to six years younger than Bumbutai. When he was about seven years old, he accompanied the 13-year-old Bumbutai from Horqin Grassland to Shengjin to marry Huang Taiji.

Su Mo'erqi was extremely smart. Not only was she proficient in Mongolian language and writing, she also learned Manchu and Chinese in a very short period of time. Her Manchu calligraphy was so excellent that Shunzhi and Kangxi and Kangxi She was responsible for enlightening several princes in their Manchu writing, and her handwriting from that time is still preserved in Chinese archives.

Su Moer has considerable attainments in etiquette culture. When Huang Taiji appointed the concubines of the Fifth Palace in the first year of Chongde, he also officially named Sumer a "female scholar" and ordered her to formulate the Manchu costumes. This had a profound impact on the court etiquette of the Manchu and Qing Dynasties for more than 270 years.

When Emperor Shunzhi was in power, Xuanye, the future Emperor Kangxi, often left the palace to avoid acne, and Sumer was also with him. During the few years outside the palace, she had been responsible for educating Xuanye. important task.

In the twenty-sixth year of Kangxi's reign, Empress Dowager Xiaozhuangwen died of illness. Sumer immediately lost his spiritual support and was in a trance all day long. Emperor Kangxi understood his thoughts deeply and transferred the emperor's twelfth son Yinzhen (who had lost his mother in his early years) ( The concubine Wan Liuha's son (later the son of the concubine Ding) was given to her to raise. Sure enough, under Sumer's education, Yinzhen became modest, sensible, tolerant, erudite and hardworking. The most important thing is that Sumer taught him how to behave in the world. He was one of the few Kangxi princes who was not involved in Yongzheng's struggle to seize half of the throne, and because of his excellent political acumen and talents It was later reused by Yongzheng and Qianlong.

In the Yongzheng period, he was named a county prince, and in the Qianlong period, he was named Prince Shuolu and appointed minister of political affairs. Even so, he remained respectful and cautious throughout his life. Yinzhen was also the oldest among the Kangxi disciples, at the age of 79. It is conceivable that if it were not for Sumer's careful upbringing, a prince who was born in the royal family and experienced half the battle for the rightful son in the Kangxi Dynasty, it would be impossible to maintain such a good life. Peace of mind.

The Su Melbourne people were also such people. She had a peaceful mind throughout her life, was loyal to the royal family and Queen Xiaozhuang Wen, believed in Buddhism, and died at a high age. She was over ninety years old, which should be a happy death.

Everyone in the palace was very sad about Sumer's death. On the day of the funeral, except for the emperor's fifth son Yinqi and the tenth son Yin (礻wo) who stayed to take care of the empress dowager, and the fourteenth son Yinqi who stayed outside the Forbidden City, all the other adult princes attended the funeral ceremony. After Aunt Sumala's coffin was placed in the funeral palace, the princes all returned to their respective homes. Only the twelfth prince, Yinzhen, made a request and said: "My aunt has raised me since I was a child, and I have not been able to repay that. That's it. I would like to live there." Watch for a few days, and within a hundred days, provide food and chant Sanqi sutras. "According to the custom, there is no precedent for a prince to provide food and chant Sanqi sutras for a servant like Sumala Gu. Yinzhi did not dare to agree to Yinzhen's request without permission, so in the memorial reporting the death of Aunt Sumala due to illness on September 9th, he also included Yinzhen's request and asked the emperor for instructions. Emperor Kangxi commented in the memorial: "The words of the twelfth elder brother are very true, and I will follow his request." Yinzhen lived in the funeral palace, guarding the funeral of Sumala Aunt, providing food and chanting sutras, while the other princes took turns to do so every day. Send someone to accompany Yinzhen.

Emperor Kangxi once instructed the prince: If something happens to his grandmother, he should stay there for seven days before being buried. The purpose is to see the beloved E Niang in person after returning to the palace and bid farewell to her body. But later he calculated that he would not be able to return to the palace for fifteen days, so he issued an order again, asking the princes to keep Sumala Gu's body for another seven days until he returned to the palace. From this, we can see the deep love between Emperor Kangxi and Aunt Sumala.

In order to repay Aunt Suma for her contribution to the Qing Dynasty, her kindness to him for "teaching him the national book by hand and relying on her to teach him" and for raising the prince, Emperor Kangxi decided to honor Suma as a concubine. La Gu is attending to the funeral. This can be said to be a great honor for La Gu Sumala, who was born as a slave.

Aunt Sumala spent more than 60 years with Empress Xiaozhuang Wen day and night during her lifetime, and they spent extraordinary years. Of course, they should be left together for a long time after their death. At that time, the Zi Palace in Xiaozhuang was parked in the temporary Anfeng Hall at the foot of Changrui Mountain in Zunhua, and Emperor Kangxi decided to park Lagu Sumala's coffin here. The coffin of Aunt Sumala was moved to the temporary enshrinement hall on October 13th, the 44th year of Kangxi reign. It had been 18 years since the master and servant had been separated. For this reunion in the underworld, Emperor Kangxi would definitely thank Emperor Kangxi for his sacrifice. They made this careful and thoughtful arrangement.
