Xu Borong is not one of the top ten modern calligraphers. The top ten modern calligraphers are Shen Peng, Ouyang Zhongshi, Liu Bingsen, Qi Gong, Zhang Hai, Li Duo, Huang Qi, Shu Tong, Yu Youren and Zhao Puchu.

Xu Borong, also known as Xu Shu, was born in 1930. Born in Yixing, Wujin. He lives in Dongshan, Suzhou now. He loved calligraphy since he was a child and studied under Professor Cheng Keda, a famous calligrapher. Currently, he is the curator of Xu Borong Art Museum, an expert member of the World UNESCO, the vice president of the World Chinese Artists Association, the chief researcher of the China Calligraphers Association, the executive consultant of American international biographical research, the director of the Friendship Union of Calligraphers in China (Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), Japan, South Korea and New Zealand, the sponsor writer of Daejeon Ink and Wash Research Association in Korea, the connoisseur of calligraphy and painting art of Asian Art Research Association in China, and more than 30 museums and research institutes at home and abroad concurrently serve as museums, deans and professors.
