The Story of Su Dongpo's Worship of Qu Yuan
Su Dongpo was an outstanding genius in the literary world of the Northern Song Dynasty. His admirers range from members of the royal family to villagers. However, Su Shi also has his own idol, Qu Yuan.
At the age of 23, Su Shi and his father Su Xun went to Beijing by boat and passed by Quyuan Temple in Hubei. Due to the age, Quyuan Temple is overgrown with weeds and dilapidated. Seeing this scene, Su Shi was extremely sad. After the tearful sacrifice, he was full of affection for idols and wrote the famous poem Qu Yuan Temple Fu.
He said in the article:
Is it necessary to pursue perfection as a gentleman? Can't you choose to stay away from disaster? But you still do what you think is right wholeheartedly. In my heart, you are a truly noble and moral gentleman.
This word not only expresses the idolatry of a fan, but also is the soul dialogue between Su Shi and Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan's tragic life and lofty patriotism are permeated in the words of this young genius.
Some people objected to Qu Yuan's decision to throw himself into the river. Yang Xiong, a writer in the Han Dynasty, said: If you don't have the right time to develop your talents, you can stay dormant for a while. Why did you throw yourself into the river?
In order to defend the idol spirit, Su Shi not only firmly refuted Yang Xiong in his article, but also compared him with Qu Yuan's "loyalty to death" and satirized his behavior of breaking official holidays and changing dynasties. Su Shi's worship of Qu Yuan has gone beyond the scope of literature and become a pursuit of the meaning of life. Later, like his idol Qu Yuan, he became an outspoken person. Even if he offended the emperor because he opposed the reform that harmed the interests of the people, and was framed for offending the nouveau riche in the Wutai poetry case, he did not change his honest and frank nature. Even if his life is rough, he is only responsible for the truth and only speaks with his conscience.
Su Shi once said that Qu Yuan's literary talent and character were beyond his reach in his life. But in our eyes, this devout "fan" has already reached the same height as his idol, and his articles and spirit are shining through the ages.
The biggest "idolization" is to have the same strength and light as idols.
