Which industries and fields are winners? Which ones are good enough?

Recently, I learned from Mr. Wang Shuo's 30-day cognitive training camp that I have gained something and shared it with you.

Advise you to do useless things.

If a person only focuses on doing useful things, then your perspective on life cannot be diversified, which is related to your resource allocation and the use of time and attention will be too concentrated.

But we should focus on the future development, not just the present reality. Only focusing on doing useful things will bring two bad consequences, which are related to your future life and death, both of which are fatal.

First, your ability will be limited to your current field, not only what you are best at, but also local first, not global first.

You must jump out of your perspective, look at the problem from a higher and broader perspective, and look at the overall situation with the overall situation.

Like a drop of water in the sea, or a handful of sand in the desert. The smallness of an individual is insignificant compared with the greatness of all people. In other words, it is necessary to develop a holistic view of problems, so that it is not easy to generalize and you will always know your position in reality.

Second, only doing useful things will make your ability too single and your vision too narrow. If the industry environment changes, the ability is limited and there is no room for transformation, it will suffer a devastating blow.

As uploaded on the internet, if there is a toll collector at the highway toll station, I will collect it for half my life. I can't do anything except charge. What if you are laid off?

In the future, with the development of science and technology, intelligent machines will replace the work of more people, so in addition to doing useful things, we should also do some useless things for emergencies.

So, what useless things should we do?

1. Communicate with people more. Many bottlenecks or new ideas are inspired by communication with people. The content of the conversation is not important. What matters is the unexpected gains brought by communication itself.

2. Do what you are interested in. Only the things you are interested in can last for a long time, and it can also give you a sense of accomplishment. Every time you do it, you will get unexpected gains, which is also your talent.

3. Set aside a whole piece of time to do things, it is easy to enter the flow state, and the work efficiency will be higher. It will also save a lot of time and energy wasted in the conversion process.

4. Do something that looks useless in the short term but is valuable in the long term, that is, something that is not urgent but important and can produce long-term compound interest effect.

Life is not optimal, as long as it is good enough.

People's time, attention, energy and memory are limited, and everything can't be perfect.

That is to deal with infinite perfection with limited energy. There will always be a better solution, and we can't pursue it indefinitely in a limited time. In other words, as the old saying goes, when you are good, you should accept it and not be greedy.

One field should do well enough, spend other energy on more fields, and get 80% useful content with 20% energy in one field. As a knowledgeable nomadic people, we will go wherever the water and grass are abundant.

But sometimes, in some places, we should spare no effort to be the first.

Because the former will attract the best resources and take advantage of others. For example, in sports competitions, the first place in the world is dominant, fame and fortune are all collected, and the second place is forgotten.

Sports, art, war, etc. All winners. If you are good enough in these fields, it is not desirable. You must win completely, and you must go all out in the game, because there is no room for manoeuvre, so you can think about the reasons for your failure.

Failure turned all previous efforts into sunk costs. You will be surpassed or even replaced by others at any time, which means that you have no value of existence. Only when you are far ahead of others will you be remembered, become an example for people to follow and become a winner in life.

Therefore, we must distinguish which industries are winner-take-all, and those that are good enough should be avoided.

My analysis: those competitive events with accurate evaluation, such as sports competitions, academic certificates, professional title examinations, etc. , all exams; There are creative jobs, such as writing, recording, designers, actors and stars, directors, painters, calligraphers and creative advertisements.

These all have a common feature: works created at the same time can be used or sold many times, and then the marginal cost is almost zero;

There are also jobs that buy other people's time and then create and sell, such as investing in starting a company or investing in real estate; Companies that invest in others, such as stocks, bonds, futures, funds, etc. It belongs to the winner-take-all industry.

Those jobs with low threshold that can only be sold once, such as salespeople, chefs, handicraft makers, beauty salons, civil servants, office workers and so on. All jobs that work for people have glass ceilings and are not optimized. It's all money bought with time, with limited value and good enough.

If you want to change your destiny, you must constantly improve your ability and make yourself worthy of being better!

Summary: One should not only do useful things, but also do interesting and talented things; Life is not optimized, take it when it is good; But in sports, artistic creativity, war and other fields, the winner takes all, and must strive for the first place.
