Who knows why Su Shi is more famous than his father (Su Xun) and brother (Su Zhe)?
Su Shi loved calligraphy since childhood. When I was a teenager, I studied at Qiyun Temple, 80 miles west of Meishan City. On the cliff, he wrote the word "Lian 'ao Mountain", which is as big as a house and vigorous. Among the four great calligraphers in Song Dynasty, namely "Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Mi Fei, Cai (Cai Xiang, Cai Jing)", he is among the best, which is inseparable from his "young and good at writing, old and tireless" (Mr. Dongpo's epitaph). He once said: "I can't write books with my heart, I'm happy." (Shi Zui Mo Tang) This realm of "impossibility" in letter writing without deduction was obtained through long-term practice according to law, and it was based on the hard practice of "building walls without writing mountains". Because of this, he criticized those who scribbled cursive script without learning block letters in Six Books of Tang Family: "It is a big mistake to say that people who are good at cursive script in this world really can't (block letters). The right man, walking grass; Really like standing (standing at attention), walking like walking, grass like walking (running). No one can't do it, stand up and go. " This passage fully shows that "impossibility" must be based on law, and "intentional creation" must be based on hard training. Su Zhe's poem "Cang Cang Shu Zui Mo Tang" also said: "Shi Jun got calligraphy and has been writing for a long time. The management is great and the work is easy. " This also shows that only by "writing for a long time" can you "get calligraphy" and only by practicing "reason" can you "relax".
