The Origin of Kongming Lantern
Kongming's lanterns are large and small, with a diameter of more than 2 meters. Bundle with bamboo strips, stick with flexible bamboo hemp paper and brush with tung oil. On the cross at the bottom of the lantern, a cloth ball covered with soybean oil is tied with wire. When flying Kongming lanterns, first light the cloth ball, and the air in the lanterns will be heated to expand and brighten. When you give up, Kongming's lantern will float in Ran Ran, just like a light flashing in the night sky in early spring.
When Zhuge Liang was besieged by Sima Yi in Pingyang, the whole army was at a loss. Zhuge Liang came up with a clever plan, calculated the wind direction clearly, and ordered people to bring thousands of blank sheets of paper and paste them into countless lanterns. Then, they took them down by the upward gravity of the smoke, and the little lanterns rose one by one. The soldiers in the camp shouted: "Teacher Zhuge broke through with the sky lantern!" . Sima yi actually believed it and led the troops to chase the sky lantern, so Zhuge Liang was able to escape. Later generations called this lantern "Kongming Lantern". According to another legend, this kind of lantern looks like a hat worn by Zhu Gekongming, hence the name "Kongming Lantern". There is also a saying that after every major war, Zhuge Liang ordered people to set off sky lanterns to pay homage to the fallen soldiers of the Three Armies, and at the same time pointed out the way to heaven for the fallen soldiers of the Three Armies.
Who invented the Kongming Lantern?
In the first and fifth dynasties, there was a fairy who used to tie bamboo sticks in a box and paste them with paper to make headlights. There is burning turpentine on the chassis, and the lamp is flown into the sky by hot air as a military contact signal. This kind of resin lamp is called Kongming Lantern in Sichuan. This lamp is shaped like a hat worn by Zhuge Liang, hence its name.
Another saying was invented by Zhuge Liang during the Three Kingdoms period. At that time, Zhuge Liang was besieged in Pingyang and could not send troops out of the city for help. Kong Ming calculated the wind direction, made a floating paper lantern, and tied a message for help on it. Later, he was out of danger, so later generations called this lantern Kongming Lantern.
