"Shanjuan's Hometown, Shande Dingcheng" 10,000 Yuan National Poetry and Prose Collection
Shanjuan's hometown, now Dingcheng District, Changde City, Hunan Province, is located on the west bank of Dongting Lake and the political center of northwest Hunan. The economic and cultural center, the "Wuzhu" in the ancient poet Qu Yuan's "Wuzhu" and the place where Liu Yuxi lived for ten years are both here.
There are many stories and legends about Shanjuan circulating in Dingcheng. Shanjuan Village, where the district government is located, is named after Shanjuan once lived in seclusion here. There are Guzhuizigou where Shanjuan set up drums, Niutou Port where he drank cattle, Xiertan where he washed his ears after hearing "harsh" words, as well as relics such as Shanjuan Diaoyutai and Shanjuan Ancient Tomb. According to records in many ancient books, Mr. Shanjuan, who lived in the ancient times of Yao, Shun and Yu, was not only deeply respected by the local people, but was also particularly respected by Yao, Shun and Yu. Emperor Shun, recorded in "Zhuangzi Rang Wang", once wanted to surrender to him; Yao recorded in "Lu Shi Chun Qiu Xia Xian" was moved by Shan Juan's "virtue and wisdom" and worshiped Shan Juan as his teacher; the Republic of China During this period, Mr. Zhong Yulong's "The Romance of Ancient Myths" written based on history gave a detailed description of Yu's encounter with Shanjuan and his request for advice. These all showed Shanjuan's beautiful virtues from different perspectives.
Shanjuan has been called the "ancestor of virtue" of the Chinese nation by literati of all ages. Today's academic circles generally believe that the virtues of Shanjuan are mainly manifested in education, benevolence, love for the people, justice, harmony, and indifference to fame and fortune. In order to practice the Changde spirit of "Being virtuous in the world, and strive for harmony and progress" and to promote the virtues of Shanjuan, a national poetry and prose competition called "Hometown of Shanjuan, City of Shande Ding" is now held.
