What does it mean to meet the golden wind and jade dew in "Magpie Bridge Immortal" by Qin Shaoyou? Did we all get it wrong?

Foreword

A few days ago I answered a question like this: What does it mean that when a golden phoenix meets a jade dew, they win but there are countless others in the world, and where does it come from?

The title of the question contains a wrong word. It is not "金" phoenix" but "金" wind". The difference between one word and one word is huge, but it is indeed easy to make this mistake when typing on a computer.

Today, when self-media is popular, everything on the table is cultural fast food. Even some traditional media articles often have typos, which is no longer surprising to everyone. Some people may say that you are really a crow making fun of a pig. Ha, there are often typos in Lao Cai’s articles, so how dare you make fun of others.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the original words of Qin Guan’s “Magpie Bridge Immortal”:

The thin clouds make tricks, the flying stars spread hatred, and the silver and Han are far away in darkness. Once the golden wind and jade dew meet, they will win over countless others in the world.

Tenderness is like water, good times are like dreams, and I can’t bear to look at the magpie bridge on my way back. If the love lasts for a long time, how can it last day and night?

Friends who like poetry probably don’t know these two sentences. Although they are familiar, I am afraid it is easy to misunderstand the sentence "Gold, wind and jade meet once".

1. The golden wind and jade dew are common images used to describe autumn

The golden wind is the autumn wind, and the jade dew is the dew in autumn. Golden wind and jade dew often appear in ancient poems describing autumn. For example, in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Anonymous wrote "Autumn Song of the Four O'clock in the Midnight"

The golden fan is plain and the jade dew condenses into frost. The wild geese come and go when climbing high, and the guests are melancholy and sad.

In poetry, if the golden wind and jade dew are not in one sentence, they are often in the opposite parts of the upper and lower sentences. For example, Li Shimin's "One of Two Autumn Poems"

The chrysanthemums are scattered in the golden wind, and the lotus is sparse and the jade is round. There are several geese walking in autumn, and there are several cicadas in the forest before summer.

The clouds are filled with sorrow over half of the ridge, and the clouds are scattered high in the sky. It also looks like looking at Chengdu, directly in front of Emei.

Qilu "Fireflies" by the poet monk Qi Ji

Through the window, the bamboos are living and moving, and all kinds of things are leisurely. It's hard to hide a small amount of light in a dark room, but to use a solitary shadow to help illuminate the time.

In the empty court, the golden wind blows away, and the scattered leaves compete to cast jade and dew. Later generations of Confucian scholars were lazy and flew past the reading curtain late at night.

Golden wind means Pingping, and Jade Dew means 廄廄, which can exactly contrast with each other in the upper and lower couplets.

These two words can also be used side by side, which happens to be Pingping 廄廄: Jinfeng Jade Dew. For example, Li Shangyin's song "Xinwei Qixi"

Perhaps it is because the immortal family wants to part ways, so it is a good time to teach them to stay away from each other. The origin of the blue sky beside the Milky Way is when the golden wind and jade dew come.

The clear leaks gradually moved away and we looked at each other for a long time, but the faint clouds were not too late to catch them. How can I not intend to reward the crow and magpie, but beg for clever silk with the spider?

The blue sky is falling beside the Milky Way, when the golden wind and jade dew are shining. Beside the Milky Way in the sky, when the autumn wind blows and the white leaves appear. One sentence indicates the place, and one sentence indicates the time.

Another example is "Moon over the River: Thanking a Man for the Son" (Anonymous in the late Tang Dynasty and early Song Dynasty):

The sky is high and the air is refreshing. The golden wind and jade dew arrange the autumn festival. Standing guarding the window is ineffective, and I feel ashamed that I am not a great person.

The family is poor and the children are tired, so I don’t expect anything special. The new chapter is full of praise, and naturally good words are sent out again.

It is enviable that he has little energy and no reserves, his guests are shabby, and he lacks etiquette to entertain his guests. Thank you all for being so kind to me, even though there is a bowl of spring snow.

If the jade fruit is not round yet, rhinoceros money must be dealt with. I will tell you early. I'm afraid that I will betray my pearls and jade, and my small words will lose my power.

The first few sentences are exciting, the sky is high and the air is crisp, it is the autumn when the autumn wind blows and the jade dew grows. Another person has been added to the family...

Or it may be smooth and flat, with jade dew and golden breeze, such as Cao Xun's "Qing Ping Le·Chun Before and After"

Spring Separate the front from the back. Often frowning. I'm afraid that the sound of warblers will cause leakage. The dream broke and the quilt was piled with embroidery.

Return the jade dew and the golden wind. Qiu Sheng came to the room first. There are no rulers on the river, but flying giants can still be seen in the clouds.

It’s autumn again, with jade dew and golden wind, but there is no news about my sweetheart. There is no fish in the water to pass the message, and no swan geese in the sky to pass the message.

2. The golden wind and the jade dew meet. It’s not that the golden wind and the jade dew meet.

When I first read the poem "Magpie Bridge Immortal" by Qin Guan, I thought it was the meeting of the golden wind and the jade dew, just like the Cowherd saw the Weaver Girl, one gold and one jade, quite a match. . Not really.

Let’s talk about “Magpie Bridge Immortal” first. This piece of music was originally composed to sing the love story of Cowherd and Weaver Girl. For example, although Ouyang Xiu's "Magpie Bridge Immortal" does not have the names of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, it clearly writes about the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meeting each other on the Chinese Valentine's Day: "The old days of the Linghan Dynasty are still here, and the Magpie Bridge Road connects to Tianjin": > The moon waves are clear, the smoke is bright and light, and the old days of Linghan have returned. Queyingqiao Road connects Tianjin and is dotted with Jia'an and Xingyu.

The cloud screen has not rolled up, the fairy chicken is urging the dawn, and the heart is broken with the feeling of last year. It is easy to follow God's will but not to teach others. It is easy to be afraid and happy.

Although this poem by Qin Shaoyou is also about a reunion on the Chinese Valentine's Day, it also omits the names of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. After understanding the omission of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, it is easy to understand the golden wind and jade dew meeting each other.

As soon as the golden wind and jade dew meet, they will win countless things in the world. This actually refers to the meeting of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl "when the golden wind and jade dew are born". Instead of Jinfeng and Yulu meeting each other. In Qin Guan's Magpie Bridge, the golden wind and jade dew are not the subject but the time adverbial. The real subject is the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, but the poet prefers to omit inversion and other activities.

Another example is "Jade dew, gold, wind and moon are perfectly round" in Yan Shu's "The Joy of Longevity"

Jade dew, gold, wind and moon are round. It’s early and cool in the terrace. There is a grand gathering in the painting hall and a feast of embroidery. The stars in the cave, the turtles and the cranes, come to bring blessings and longevity. There was joy and joy, and thick smoke filled the golden furnace.

Clear songs and wonderful dances, urgent pipes and complex strings. The boat is filled with durian flowers. May everyone be blessed with wealth and longevity. Don't teach that the red sun goes late in the west, leaving the drunken gods alone.

Jade dew, golden wind, and full moon. When jade dew appears and the autumn wind blows, the moon is full.

Think of Li Shangyin's "Xinwei Qixi", "Origin is by the bank of the Milky Way", which refers to the place, and "When the golden wind and jade dew are available" refers to the time.

Conclusion

Let’s go back to the main question: once the golden wind and jade dew meet, they will win over countless people in the world. How did you understand this poem when you first read it?

Qin Guan said that when the Golden Wind and Jade Dew appeared, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl met each other. Although the meeting was short, it was better than the long-term companionship in the world.

So Xia Que will write: If the love lasts for a long time, how can it last day and night? If two people are truly deeply in love, it doesn't mean staying together every day.
