Hu Gongshi (1912-1997) was born in Anhu, Yancheng, Jiangsu. I have been fond of calligraphy since childhood. He graduated from Shanghai Jinan University in 1935. After graduation, he studied under Yu Youren and became his disciple. He was incorporated into the Standard Cursive Script Society founded by Yu Youren and edited for the Standard Cursive Script Society. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he reestablished the Standard Cursive Script Society and served as its president. Later, he served as director of the Ningxia Literature and History Research Center, president of the Ningxia Painting and Calligraphy Academy, director of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, honorary chairman of the Ningxia branch, deputy director of the Jiangsu Provincial Literature and History Research Center, president of the China Standardized Cursive Script Society, and honorary director of the Chinese Taipei Standard Cursive Script Society. Honorary professor of the Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Correspondence University, a national first-class artist, and a member of the 6th and 7th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He is the author of "Standard Cursive Script Thousand-Character Essay" and "Standard Cursive Script Vocabulary".
