-Talking about the past and the present "Yellow Grass"
Generally speaking, Chinese characters are essential when it comes to China culture; When talking about Chinese characters, you can't help but talk about calligraphy; Speaking of calligraphy, cursive script is the most "recognized" by ordinary people among truth, grass, official and seal. The reason why people can "recognize" it is simple: "I can't understand it."
According to legend, cursive script originated in the Han Dynasty, originally from Cao Zhang, and later developed into a modern cursive script, which was perfected by Wang Xizhi in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. In the Tang Dynasty, it gained unprecedented prosperity and became a weed. The so-called "don't understand" probably started from this time.
In fact, whether it is Cao Zhang, Today Grass or Crazy Grass, they are very disciplined. Although there are many strokes and a number when writing, on closer examination, there are strict rules for drawing every bit, and it is not like some people think. People who write well in cursive script often have a solid basic skill in regular script, and it takes hard training to reach the peak of art.
Writing cursive seems to be very particular about "potential", or a kind of artistic conception. Some people describe cursive script as "like a snake in the grass, a bird in the forest, unstoppable, coming to the deep stone." In the Tang Dynasty, Zhang Xu's cursive script, Li Bai's poem and General Pei's sword were called "three unique skills". Zhang Xu often writes wildly or in ink when he is drunk. The words he writes are crazy, like epilepsy, flowing and unpredictable. Huai Su, another master of wild grass, is a Buddhist disciple and a disciple of Xuanzang, but he is open-minded and addicted to alcohol. Every time he is drunk, he writes freely on the walls, clothes and utensils of the temple, flying and dancing with dragons and phoenixes. So people call Zhang Xu and Huai Su "drunkards".
This kind of writing is good and beautiful, but it is no wonder that others complain that they can't understand it.
Of course, some cursive scripts are easy to recognize. In order to standardize the cursive script that has been difficult to read since ancient times, Mr. Yu Youren, whose alias is "Taiping Laoren", compiled a "standard cursive script" which is easy to read, easy to write, accurate and beautiful, and has a great influence in the calligraphy field.
The "Yellow Grass" font recently introduced by Founder of Peking University is, in a sense, a standard cursive script that can be understood by Mr. Huang, a patriotic old overseas Chinese living in the United States. Mr. Huang Lao has struggled overseas for decades. He is not only enthusiastic about public welfare, donating money to help students and doctors, but also feels the pain of many young overseas Chinese who don't know Chinese characters and Chinese. He is determined to write a set of "Yellow Grass" style that is easy to understand, easy to write and use, and simple and traditional, so as to encourage overseas Chinese youth to inherit and learn China traditional culture. After many twists and turns, Mr. Huang Lao found the founder of Peking University and got its full support. In just a few months, the "yellow grass" on the paper has become the "yellow grass" font in the computer.
Compared with common printed fonts, the effect of using yellow grass is also very different. Holding the "yellow grass" typesetting words is natural and peaceful, just like letters from family members and songs.
