Yang Zhongyou, a native of Jinzhou, Liaoning Province, was born in 1944. He was fond of calligraphy and painting since childhood. He was trained in art classes as a student and graduated from the Fourth Military Medical University. After entering medicine and politics, he continued to visit teachers and friends, studied literature, calligraphy and Chinese landscape painting techniques, and pursued artistic innovation. In the mid-1980s, he carefully collected beautiful stones from all over the world, collected poems, calligraphy and paintings into one stone, and created the original Chinese stone painting art known as "one of the wonders of China". In 1997, he was selected as the "Son of the East" by CCTV.
