My father is a "cultural man"

My father said that words are like people. When writing, you must be meticulous and meticulous, and when you are a person, you must be upright and upright.

1

My father loves to practice calligraphy. This is a "secret" that I learned even after peeing. A peasant whose education level is only junior high school often calls himself an "educated person" in front of me. At this point, although I sneer at his occasional bragging, it is a fact recognized from all over the country that my father's handwriting is good.

My mother said that when she and her father first got married, his father would sit at his desk every night, dip his pen in ink, and practice for an hour. During this period, no matter what his mother did or said, he remained silent, as if he were a sitting still and enlightened monk. For this reason, mothers rarely complain.

Later, after I was newlywed, I had to deal with the daily chores of food, rice, oil and salt. My father took on the responsibility of the family, so I no longer had so much leisure time to practice calligraphy.

Ever since I could speak, my mother taught me that "human beings are inherently good by nature" and "look up at the bright moon and bow down to think of your hometown." Looking back to this day, I am still proud of a certain exam in the fifth grade of elementary school. I was the only one in the class to fill in the second half of the sentences "Falling red is not a heartless thing" and "Spring silkworms will not lose their silk until they die." It can be said that my first language teacher was my mother. However, in terms of writing Chinese characters, my father is a well-deserved mentor, and his influence on me is so profound that it will be indelible throughout my life.

The preparations before writing must be in place, the desk should be cleared, the notebook should be straightened, the pencil should be sharpened to what extent, and how much of the pen tip should be exposed, my father has clear regulations. Secondly, the sitting posture should be upright and must not be tilted. In his view, sitting slanted can lead to a slanted character, and a slanted character indicates an evil heart. Next, the posture of holding the pen should be correct, and the pen should be steady and powerful. When I write now, the back of the paper is full of uneven writing marks. There is also word spacing and line spacing, which should not be too loose or too dense. In this aspect, my father finally achieved the results he expected by supervising me to do my homework every day and reminding me from time to time.

People often say that attitude determines height. Although I don’t agree with my father’s high attainments in calligraphy, his attitude is true.

When I was in the first or second grade of elementary school, my teacher required that every homework assignment must have a parent’s signature before it could be counted. What was once done in a flash, my father always spent a minute or two on. I was impatient and waited for him to finish it and go find his friends to play with, but he was unhurried and would write it over again if he was not satisfied, as if signing was an extremely sincere thing.

One time when I was doing homework at home, I spent an entire afternoon and couldn't solve the problem the teacher asked. My father could not wait for me to ask for his signature, so he came quietly to "inspect the public sentiment." He said that the teacher had made a mistake in the problem, so he took my notebook and pen and filled the blank spaces where I solved the problem with densely packed comments and suggestions. He wrote very seriously, word by word, as if he was treating my homework book as a copybook.

It suddenly dawned on me that my father took every opportunity to write as seriously as practicing calligraphy.

Not only that, but his father’s cherishment of calligraphy also reflects his cultivation as a “cultural man”.

When we were in the third grade of elementary school, our teacher asked us to buy the Four Treasures of the Study on a whim. I vaguely remember the market price back then. The total of these items was about five yuan, one-third of my weekly living expenses.

The teacher taught me very patiently in the first few days. When writing horizontally, there should be twists and turns, while when writing vertically, there should be a straight flow, and the writing should be slow, quick, straight and measured. The students were very interested. They practiced on paper during class and wrote in the corridor after class, using the ground as paper and water as ink.

After a few days of fresh energy, the teacher stopped teaching and the students had no interest in practicing anymore. So I packed up the Four Treasures of the Study, carefully brought them home, and put them aside.

When I went home at the weekend, I happened to see a pile of waste paper on the table that I had used. The back of the paper and the unfilled blank space were densely covered with calligraphy.

Later, our office moved several times, but the box of ink and the brush always occupied the most conspicuous position on the desk. I knew that my father was reluctant to buy paper, so I often put old copies away so that he could splash out his ink.

I often feel that literacy cannot be judged solely by diplomas. Born in a backward mountain village where boys were valued over girls, education was not valued. He watched his childhood playmates work part-time and get married, but his father did not believe that it was virtue for a woman to have no talent, and he did not ask his daughter to make money early to support him. of grace. My father chose a path less traveled and taught me through words and deeds for many years, finally sending me to college. He often said that when he was young, there were many brothers in his family and his family was poor. It was his lifelong regret that he could not go to school. Now that the conditions have improved, he must let me go out and see the world.

My father did not have a diploma, but he had character, elegance, foresight, and the qualities that a cultured person should have. He taught me to write well and also taught me to be a good person.

My father, he is a man of culture.

Your likes and attention should be considered a joy to me. I will come to play often in the future~
