I have been practicing calligraphy since I was 5 years old. With decades of experience, I can tell you responsibly that the order of practicing calligraphy is regular script - running script - cursive script. Regular script is the foundation of personal calligraphy literacy. Once practiced, you can develop the feel of calligraphy, the arrangement of font space, etc.
There are four major fonts in regular script: Zhao, Liu, Ou, and Yanti. Just pick one and practice according to the font you like. After you have a certain foundation, you can start practicing writing and cursive writing.
Haste makes waste, don’t just learn running script when you have no foundation. Practicing calligraphy is meant to keep your mind calm, and practicing calligraphy can also cultivate your body and mind. You have too many desires and thoughts in your heart. Thinking about eating and becoming fat is neither in line with the rules nor in line with the original intention of practicing calligraphy. Therefore, you need to proceed step by step and slowly experience the joy of changing from quantitative to qualitative changes.
