The Artistic Features of Chu Feng

Chu Suiliang was a famous calligrapher in Tang Dynasty. His calligraphy is a banner of the Tang Dynasty, which won Wang Xizhi's calligraphy. He was also one of the four famous calligraphers in the early Tang Dynasty. He is called the "fairy pen", which looks very elegant as a whole, just like a fairy riding a cloud, and has a very light and elegant feeling.

Preface to the sacred instruction of Yanta

So what aspects should we pay attention to when learning his calligraphy? I think we should look at it from two aspects.

1. Pen lifting: In the process of learning calligraphy, the process of pen lifting is generally divided into lifting and pressing. Usually novices can press it on the road, but they may not be able to lift it. The requirement of lifting a pen is to control the strength on the nib. If the pen tip is divided into one or two points, Yan Zhenqing divides it into three points, Ou Yangxun divides it into two points, and Chu Suiliang divides it into one point, that is, on a pen tip. So, just press it. On the whole, he just added some lines to start writing.

2. Create empty inspiration: This empty inspiration comes from some conventional methods of breaking regular script, such as the horizontal line in the middle of the word "Liang". According to the normal script writing, the horizontal head is vertical on the left side, while Chu Suiliang's horizontal head is often written in the middle instead of vertical on the left side, which can create an ethereal inspiration, including his word "money". There are many words that will do the same, causing empty inspiration inside.
