This paper analyzes the similarities and differences in the identity, occupation and knowledge structure of ancient and modern calligraphers, and asks the Great Xia for guidance.

1. Ancient calligraphers were mostly learned literati, and calligraphy was just an art they used for recreation in their leisure time. The so-called "after reading, I have nothing to do and wander around." Calligraphers in different dynasties have different identities and occupations, ranging from dignitaries to ordinary people, and even some emperors can be called famous calligraphers, such as Emperor Taizong and Song Huizong. Among many calligraphers, most are literati, such as Yu Shinan, Su Shi and Zhao Mengfu. They are proficient in poetry, painting and calligraphy.

2. Contemporary calligraphers are mostly artists. After experiencing a series of shocks, contemporary calligraphy is actually in a rather embarrassing situation. Among contemporary calligraphers, there are some who have made real achievements, some who study calligraphy from the perspective of western aesthetics, some who study calligraphy under the influence of epigraphy in Qing Dynasty, and some who stick to the traditional calligraphy style. However, nowadays, more and more people will get married with a brush, swindling and cheating, and shameless people can be seen everywhere. Talking about their knowledge structure is almost like telling jokes.
