The origin of word formation

Liu, this used to be a murderous Chinese character!

It's a pictophonetic character, from gold, from knife, and three (yǒu) sounds. Original meaning: kill, slaughter. The Biography of Confucius said: "Liu, kill also." "Shuo Wen Jie Jin Zi Bu" explains: "Smyrna (ancient six sons) killed also. Leave the gold, leave a sound. "Er Ya Shi Shu Shang" also said: "Liu, kill also."

Why the original meaning of the word Liu is "killing" comes from the fact that "Liu" originally refers to a weapon (axe). "Book" says: "One person is crowned, holding Liu, standing in Dongtang." "Liu Zhi" here means holding a weapon in his hand. Later, Liuzi was extended as a verb to "kill".

The left side of the word "Liu" in seal script is "gold" (face material), and the right side is composed of the upper half of the word "Mao" (face) and the lower half of the word "Dao", or the word "Dao" is changed to "Tian" to make "Zhu".
