Zhang Chengzhi’s profile

He went south to Shanghai in 1949 and served successively as the head of the cultural troupe of East China People's Revolutionary University, a member of the party organization and office director of the East China Opera Research Institute, the director of the Cultural Bureau of Shanghai South District, and the party secretary and first vice president of the Shanghai Yue Opera Theater. He serves as the director of the Memorial Hall of the National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the director of the Preparatory Office of the Shanghai Revolutionary History Museum. He is a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association and the first secretary-general of the Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Calligraphers Association. Calligraphy started with Ou Kai and Han Li, followed by Xi Xian and Su Huang Xiangye. He is good at calligraphy and cursive writing. He refers to the seal script and official script of the dynasties, which is simple and bold. Most of his books are self-composed poems. In practice, I developed the habit of writing poetry first before writing. His works have participated in previous Shanghai calligraphy development and national calligraphy exhibitions, as well as calligraphy exchange exhibitions between Shanghai and Osaka and Yokohama, Japan. Sino-Korean Calligraphy Exchange Exhibition, Singapore Maritime Masters Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition. In 1982, at the invitation of the Japan-China Friendship Association and the Japan Calligraphy Academy, he led a delegation to visit Japan. In 1984, the interview film "A Glimpse of the World - Zhang Chengzhi's Calligraphy Art" was produced by French TV and broadcast in five European countries. In 1991, Chen Wenlu planned Zhang Chengzhi and Zhou Huijun to go south to Shenzhen to hold a joint calligraphy exhibition. In 1995, he published "Zhang Chengzhi's Calligraphy Collection" and held a solo exhibition at the Shanghai Art Museum. On the morning of December 21, 1995, he died unfortunately while participating in a cultural exchange event organized by the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles and going to Huaxi Village and Zhangjiagang to experience life and learn about folklore.

In November 2010, the Shanghai Literary and Art Circle Association, the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, and the Shanghai Liu Haisu Art Museum organized the event to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Zhang Chengzhi's birth. "Zhang Chengzhi's Calligraphy and Poetry" was planned and edited by Chen Wenlu. Calligraphy works and works by famous maritime calligraphers are on display at Shanghai Liu Haisu Art Museum.
