I use it to find the light.
Creative background After attending the "April 5th" rally in Tiananmen Square, Gu Cheng gained a new understanding of poetry, stopped praising flowers and plants blindly, and began to think about life and destiny. In the next two years, Gu Cheng began to exercise and think deeply in many ways, and finally wrote black eyes on April 1979.
There are only two sentences in the whole poem, and the images in the poem are very common phenomena in daily life: night, eyes and light. Perhaps because of this, this poem has aroused people's extensive concern and deep thought. Everyone can understand the meaning of images and everyone has the right to enter poetry. However, that novel combination, seemingly contradictory turning point, contains incredible rationality.
This contradictory logic is the essence of these two short poems. This contradiction is on two levels.
The first level is that the overall image presentation of poetry is contrary to their presentation in people's daily experience. This mainly focuses on the image of the eyes. In the vast darkness, the eyes may be the only light. In people's experience, eyes are always a symbol of transparency. However, the eyes in the poem are "black eyes". This is the feeling in the poet's heart and the poet's profound reflection. This feeling is a heartbreaking pain, and it is an accumulation over time. This kind of reflection is heavy, and there is great fear behind it. And these all point to the "dark night"-the background of that era.
The second level of contradiction is the internal contradiction of poetry. This focuses on the image of "light". In such an era, such an environment, such a deep night, poets should look for light. The poet looked for light with his black eyes. This is the horn that poets use to resist the night. This level is also the theme of this poem: the poet should not only reflect on the dark past, pour out the pain in his heart, but also look for it.
Therefore, the poet gave this poem with only two sentences a grand and intriguing title: a generation. The content of a single poem seems to point to two generations: it is not only a summary and reflection of the previous generation, but also a call and guidance for the next generation.
This poem also fully embodies the artistic characteristics of Gu Cheng in artistic techniques, and is also unique in the construction of images. Poets use images closely related to life feelings in their lives and express their fresh experiences of the world, life and life with unexpected combinations.
The famous critic Black Eyes is the main masterpiece of the late obscure poet Gu Cheng. In this collection of poems, Gu Cheng sang his life in the world of aestheticism with his childlike style, dreamy emotions, intuition and impressionist statements, and outlined his pale world with sad brushstrokes. We can only taste and feel his impressions and thoughts through his works. Through black eyes, we can see him from two different worlds, which is the precious wealth left by the aesthetician Gu Cheng.

In the poetic world constructed by Gu Cheng, we can see that he is examining the world that is incompatible with himself from a unique perspective. He is a destined poet. He has a pair of keen "black eyes" that capture the changes of everything in the world. In Gu Cheng's poetic world, he constructed a utopia of his own with unusual thinking and pen and ink. He looks at the world with the sensitivity of a poet. "The night gave me black eyes, but I used them to find light." This two-line poem accurately summarizes the mental journey of a generation of young people who grew up during the Cultural Revolution in search of light in the dark and from darkness to light, which is of great significance as a monument to a generation of young people.
