Translation
Only by keeping it in mind when reading can you gradually make progress every day. Chen Jinzhi only reads more than 120 words a day, but there is no book he does not read. This means that you don’t read many books in one day, but you read a lot in a year. Who doesn't read now? He will read thousands of words every day. He is very happy at first, but then he forgets it immediately after reading. He can't learn much knowledge even in a year, let alone a day? When I was young, I also had the problem of being greedy for too much. Now every time I think about how empty I am of not having many poems and books in my heart, I realize that Chen Jinzhi’s method is right.
Reading Enlightenment
Don’t be greedy for more than you can chew when reading. Read carefully and remember it carefully. The little you accumulate makes more. Don't ask for more quickly, but remember it down-to-earth. Don't swallow it whole, otherwise it will be ineffective. Although these reading methods of Chen Jinzhi are not perfect, they are still inspiring to us. [1]
Author
Chen Shan, born in the Song Dynasty, named Zijie, was born in Luoyuan (now in Fujian). He was a Jinshi during the Qiandao period and lived around the end of the Northern Song Dynasty and the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty. He was appointed as the Imperial Academy's Academic Director, but he died before taking up his post. He is the author of the book "New Words on Men Liao" (also known as "New Words on Men Liao"), originally titled "Records from the Window", which is a collection of notes. This book also covers a subset of classics and history, from which we can get a glimpse of the academic thoughts, schools and other related issues at that time. Its historical value cannot be ignored. The Miscellaneous Category of the Sub-Part of "Sikuquanshu" includes the book "Mulida Xinhua" and comments on the author and content of the book, but there are many discrepancies with historical facts.
