According to Baidu Encyclopedia, Wanning City, Hainan Province is a county-level city, which is directly subordinate to Hainan Province and does not belong to other prefecture-level cities.

Wanning City is located in the southeast of Hainan Island, bordering the South China Sea in the east, Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County in the west, Lingshui Li Autonomous County in the south and qionghai city in the north. The total area of the city is 4443.6 square kilometers, including land area 1883.5 square kilometers and sea area of 2550 square kilometers.

Wanning has a long history. As early as the Neolithic Age, there were people working and living in Wanning. Wanning County was established in the seventh year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1 137), and the county name is still in use today. On August 5th 1996, Wanning County was abolished and Wanning City was established.

Wanning is known as the hometown of betel nut in China, calligraphy in China and martial arts in China.
