The branches of yellow chrysanthemums grow in the morning cold. Don't let your wine glass run dry in life. The flute blows the rain in front of the wind, and the hairpin flowers on the crown are upside down when drunk. ?
Be in good health and eat more. Dance skirts and song boards are all pure joy. Yellow flowers and white hair hold each other, and people look at them coldly.
Interpretation:
In the early morning of late autumn, the chrysanthemum branches showed bursts of chill. Life is short. If you have wine now, you will be drunk now. Braving the slanting wind and drizzle, he played the flute for fun. When he was drunk, he put on his hat upside down and took off the chrysanthemum hairpin on his head.
You should take advantage of your health to eat extra meals and have fun in the company of beautiful women singing and dancing. With the yellow flowers on his head set against the white hair, the arrogant author will show himself in front of the world with this arrogant look, and let them look at him with cold eyes.

Creative background:
This poem was probably written a few days after the Double Ninth Festival in the second year of Yuanfu (1099). At that time, Huang Tingjian was demoted to Rongzhou (now Yibin, Sichuan). At this time, he had been relegated for four full years and was in a depressed mood.
There are three poems with the same tone and rhyme, and this is the second one. The first poem has a subtitle: "Tomorrow I will drink alone and laugh at myself and present it to Shi Yingzhi." After that, Shi Yingzhi made a harmony. This poem is Huang Tingjian's re-harmony of Shi Yingzhi's harmony during the banquet.
Author's Achievements:
Huang Tingjian's large-character running script is concise and powerful, with a unique structure. Almost every word has some exaggerated long paintings, and he tries his best to send it out to form a tight palace and four edges. Divergent's new way of tying characters had a great influence on later generations. The structure is obviously influenced by Huaisu, but the twists and turns of the writing are completely different from Huaisu's rhythm.
Huang Tingjian expressed some important opinions on the art of calligraphy, most of which are scattered in "Valley Collection".
