When did the art of calligraphy come into being?
Chinese characters have experienced a long evolution in China and played an extremely important role in cultural exchange and communication. With the appearance of Chinese characters, a unique art has been formed, that is calligraphy. The germination of calligraphy has gone through many periods, from the earliest Oracle Bone Inscriptions to inscriptions on bronze, big seal script, small seal script, official script, cursive script, running script and regular script.
Calligraphy is the art of writing Chinese characters. According to research, as early as 8000-9000 years ago, symbols with original characters appeared in Jiahu site, which is also the earliest prototype of human characters. Since then, in the application of writing Chinese characters, a unique type of calligraphy art has gradually emerged.
Different calligraphy is different at different stages, mainly regular script and running script. The most famous running script is Preface to Lanting written by Wang Xizhi, a calligrapher in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. This calligraphy work is called "the best running script in the world", which has been copied and studied by numerous calligraphers in later generations. It is a treasure in the history of calligraphy in China.
