Guo Shaoyu (1893-1984), whose original name was Xifen and whose courtesy name was Shaoyu, was from Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Chinese linguist, litterateur, and historian of literary criticism. Guo Shaoyu is mainly devoted to the research of Chinese classical literature, history of Chinese literary criticism, Chinese linguistics, phonology, exegesis, Guo Shaoyu theory of calligraphy, etc. He is the author of "History of Chinese Literary Criticism", "Collation and Interpretation of Canglang's Poems", "A Study of Song Poems", and "Unpublished Collection of Song Poems". Mr. Guo Shaoyu took Zhaoyushi as the name of his restaurant. In his later years, three types of works were printed: "Collection of Classical Literature by Zhaosushi", "Collection of Languages ??and Characters by Zhaosushi", and "Miscellaneous Works of Zhaosushi". In the early 1920s, he founded the Literary Research Association with Mao Dun, Ye Shengtao and others. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as director of the Chinese Department of Fudan University, vice chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles, vice chairman of the Shanghai Writers Association, vice president of the Shanghai Chinese Language Society, deputy editor of Cihai, former dean of the School of Liberal Arts of Tongji University, and one of the first batch of doctoral supervisors at Fudan University. Guo Shaoyu made contributions to the creation and development of the discipline of Chinese literary criticism and history, while also covering ancient and modern grammar and rhetoric. He also has profound attainments in calligraphy and is respected by scholars at home and abroad.
